On November 10, 2025, the City of Long broke ground on the 51st Street Greenbelt project. The area will transform undeveloped land into an accessible green space by late 2026. The Greenbelt is located in North Long Beach on De Forest Avenue between 51st and 52nd Streets along the Los Angeles River.
The park’s design was made possible by community input to include play equipment, walking and bike paths, picnic areas, fitness equipment and much more. Construction of the project is made possible by the City’s Elevate ‘28 Infrastructure Investment Plan and its partners.

On October 30, 2025, 8th and 9th district council members hosted the 2025 Human Trafficking Summit at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library. The event invited City officials, organizations, community leaders and survivor advocates to address existing human trafficking and safety concerns along Long Beach Blvd. in North Long Beach.
The summit fostered dialogue among various groups to raise awareness and provide education and resources to residents and victims experiencing trafficking.

11/12/2025
On October 29, 2025, the City of Long Beach celebrated the completion of interim housing facility Homekey at 5950. The former Luxury Inn was transformed into a 78 unit site for people experiencing homelessness. The facility will provide onsite services to help residents achieve long term housing.
Other improvements included renovated rooms, laundry facilities, common spaces, ADA accessibility upgrades and more. For more information of Homekey at 5950, please visit: longbeach.gov/pw.

The City of Long Beach celebrated the grand reopening of the Ramona Park Signature Playground on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
The Aquatic themed playground features a whale tale climbing station, educational elements, shaded areas, additional seating and everyone’s favorite, the water fog mister.
Playground and park enhancements were made possible by resident input at City held community input meetings. Funding was made possible by the Elevate 28’ Infrastructure Initiative, California State Parks and Measure A.

The Video Communications Division, which manages LBTV, is a division of the Technology and Innovation Department of the City of Long Beach.
