Healthy competition helps kids build confidence, resilience, and the courage to try again.

Jiu Jitsu is a type of exposure therapy that can help all types of athletes:

For kids who find competition stressful, they get chance after chance to go head to head with low stakes. Win or lose, they learn to move on to the next.

For kids who break down when they lose, they get chance after chance to try, to have an outcome and to compose themselves in time for the next.

For kids who shrink in confrontation, they experience using their voice and having their tap - verbal or physical respected.

For kids who expect to win, they don’t always, and they learn that a loss doesn’t change who they are, how they are treated by their coaches and teammates, nor their connection to the community. They learn that they are more than their record.

The lessons they learn on the mat, transfer to other sports, to the classroom to the home and to the rest of their lives.

If you’ve got a student who might benefit from the wisdom of the mat, we’ve got a class for you!

Believe in your kids so they can learn to believe in themselves.

Put them in situations where they experience failure. Put them in situations where they experience success - the kind that means something, the kind that they actually worked for.

Give them hard so that they can learn to handle hard on their own later. Give them hard cloaked in fun so they learn to connect the two.

We cannot keep our kids in a protective bubble and think that they’ll be just fine as teens and adults.

They must learn to believe in themselves. They must learn to fail when the stakes are low so that they can process failure when the stakes are high. They must learn to find the delight in moving through challenge and coming out the other side.

Jiu Jitsu is super fun, but it’s not easy. Your kids will not always wanna come to class, especially if their other option is chilling on the couch with an iPad.

So you’ve gotta find your “why”. Who do you want your kid to be? What values do you want them to embody? What skills will support their growth into fully expressed human beings, capable of disappointment and perseverance and self belief?

It might not be Jiu Jitsu for your family, but we believe that kids were made to do hard things. We believe that little hard now makes it possible to get through big hard later.

If you’ve been looking for something easy, we’re not it. If you’ve been looking for something that’ll make a difference, give us a try! Your first class is always free!
