"Persons" Without Personhood? AI’s Most Dangerous Illusion

I have three observations on this video:

First, this is a genuinely clever and creative depiction of what it means for one artifact (AI) to produce another (AI-generated "people"), raising important philosophical/metaphysical questions about the differences between real beings vs. mental beings.

Second, while visually impressive, I'm concerned that this video subtly encourages a deeply flawed habit of thought: The more convincingly these artificial figures mimic human life, the more we are being conditioned to regard them as equivalent to real persons. This represents not merely a technical advance but a quiet, steady erosion of metaphysical clarity. A dangerous slippery slope!

Third, I see an urgent need for human beings to reassert in our own minds and, by extension, in the broader culture the distinction between real beings, in this case human beings who possess intrinsic dignity and rational souls, and mental constructs, which exist only by virtue of the AI programs and illusions. Without this distinction firmly in place, we risk being drawn into a disorienting future in which the artificial is treated as the authentic, and the acting human person becomes indistinguishable from disposable patterns of data and pixels generated by AI.
