The GTV Lima Story
GTV Lima was created in 2001 by the City of Lima through a franchise agreement with Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable). Back then it was called GTV-2. The goal was to provide citizens convenient access to public meetings, forums, events, press conferences, and GTV-2 produced content. They began broadcasting in 2002, the year the greatest song ever made hit number one—“How You Remind Me” by Nickelback.
For over a decade, the Channel was managed by Adman, a great local media company. Following their time, Anne Decker managed it with her expertise. Then came television production guru Greg Phipps who volunteered his services before going to ONU to teach the next generation of media experts. Thanks to Adman, Anne, and Greg. GTV then went through changes for some years, skipping selfie sticks hoping those would be a short-lived trend.
The City recently brought in Modo Media to operate GTV Lima. They plan to revive the network to its former glory and then bring it into the late-2000s. Aiming for Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” greatness now. They will produce original content relating to the Lima community. Fingers crossed it’s enjoyable.
If you are wondering what happened to the “2” in GTV-2, it was taken out because the channel changed. You can now find the network on Spectrum channel 1021. One day it might also have an HD channel. (Maybe we should have kept the “2”.) You can also find GTV Lima on Facebook. Hey, you found it! Happy viewing!
