How many of these did YOU do?

Growing up in the ’50s and ’60s allowed us to experience a different world than our children and grand children get to. We were privy to a special time in life, a carefree time of playing in the mud and not having to worry about anything besides penny candy and winning the next game of jacks. Ye...

We love this story: After flour companies realized mothers were making dresses out of the flour bags, they began patterning the bags to do their part! That's when we all pulled together!

When the Titanic met its tragic fate, among its passengers were individuals of immense wealth and influence, including millionaire John Jacob Astor IV. His fortune was vast enough to fund the construction of 30 Titanics. Yet, in a moment of dire crisis, he prioritized morality over self-preservation, surrendering his lifeboat seat to rescue two terrified children.

Similarly, Isidor Straus, co-owner of Macy's, one of America's largest department store chains, embodied selfless leadership by vowing not to board a lifeboat ahead of others. His wife, Ida, also exemplified this noble stance, choosing to remain with her husband rather than seek safety, and offering her spot to her maid, Ellen Bird.

These acts of self-sacrifice among the wealthy underscore a profound leadership lesson: true wealth is measured not by possessions but by adherence to ethical values. In their final moments, these individuals illuminated the essence of human dignity and the enduring power of moral leadership, setting an example that transcends time and continues to inspire leadership rooted in integrity and humanity!

In 1913 the brothers Bud and Temple Abernathy rode from Oklahoma to New York City on the Indian Motorcycle seen in the photo. This was not the Abernathy boys first adventure, however!

In 1909 the two brothers, Louis “Bud” aged nine and Temple five, encountered a host of Old West obstacles, including wolves and wild rivers, when they rode more than 1,000 miles from Oklahoma to Santa Fe and back – ALL ALONE!

The following year (1910) the brothers set their sights on New York City, which they reached after a month of hard riding.
In the summer of 1911, they did the impossible. They rode nearly 4,000 miles, from New York to San Francisco, in only sixty-two days. Once again, the Abernathy Boys had made a historic ride without any adult assistance! These boys were on a mission!

Can anyone help us identify this photo? These young ladies seem to have a hard growing-up, but I'd bet you they learned 'how to do things right' as well.
