Football is More Than a Game
Growing up, I really wanted to be a history teacher. Knowing how deeply I love history, I always consider it to be a fallback option in case I decide the sports journalism field isn’t for me.
But I didn’t get into writing about, talking about and enjoying football just because of the game itself. It’s so important to remember how much of an impact football can have on life off the field. Kids get out of the house and make friends - no, brothers and sisters from playing this game. Professionals give back to society by creating charity organizations in order to help those in need.
We enjoy sports because we love being able to forget about the stress in our lives from time to time, even if it’s for 30 minutes or so before picking up the kids from soccer practice or heading off to work. We enjoy sports as a conversation topic, something that can unite us even when we may disagree on other fronts (although let’s be honest, we can have some intense rivalries in sports too).
This is why I want to be an NFL analyst. When I can talk with people about their favorite team or player and get to know them a little better from that, I feel like I’m contributing to society in a meaningful way.
