Marion County Water District (KY0780268) has high turbidity levels

BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING

We routinely monitor your water for turbidity (cloudiness). This tells us whether we are effectively filtering the water supply. A water sample taken 2/16/2025 showed turbidity levels of 3 turbidity units. This is above the standard of 1 turbidity units. Because of these high levels of turbidity, there is an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms.

What should I do? What does this mean?

• DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

• *Turbidity has no health effects. However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth. Turbidity may indicate the presence of disease causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches.*
• The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice from their health care providers about drinking this water.

What is being done?

Due to flooding, small amounts of raw river water infiltrated our clearwell and has contaminated our finished drinking water in the distribution system.

We will inform you when turbidity returns to appropriate levels and when you no longer need to boil your water. We anticipate resolving the problem within 24 hours and will be testing again 2/17/2025.

For more information, please contact Toby Spalding at 270-692-2004 at 1835 Campbellsville Road, Lebanon, KY 40033.

BOIL WATER ADVISORY
Both the Lebanon Water Works and the Marion County Water District want to advise their customers of the following:
A BOIL WATER ADVISORY has been issued for Marion County (Including Lebanon Water Works and Marion County Water District customers) as of February 16, 2025, 11:15 am.
Due to the flash flooding event yesterday evening and overnight at the Lebanon Water Works water treatment plant facilities, portions of our treated water mixed with storm water from the flooding. The flood water is receding, however consistent with the Kentucky Division of Water Regulation 401 KAR 8:020, we are required to issue a Boil Water Advisory to all Lebanon Water Works and Marion County Water District Customers and Purchasers.
We are issuing this Boil Water Advisory only as a precautionary measure. While bacteriological contamination of the water has not been confirmed, the possibility of such contamination exists. This advisory is issued as a precautionary measure to protect the health and welfare of consumers in our Water Systems.
We regularly test Chlorine residuals to ensure all safety and health is being met for our consumers. We will update customers if any change in water quality occurs.

Boil Water Advisory Procedures:

1. Boil any water used for human consumption
2. Boil water for short-term use only
3. Bring water to a rolling boil for three minutes

The advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. We anticipate being able to remove the Boil Water Advisory over the next couple of days, pending clean bacteria samples for both Systems. Please listen to local media as information will be updated.

For more information concerning the Boil Water Advisory, please contact Daren S. Thompson at Lebanon Water Works at (270)692-2491 or (502)648-0927. The Marion County Water District can be reached at (270)692-2004.
