Hardy-Mockingbird & the CROW
Album Review

1. Beer - cute little song from the beers point of view. Clever lines throughout. Really makes you think about all the things beer is involved with in your life. Definitely brings you back to younger days, memories good & bad
2. Red (w/ Morgan Wallen) - on my bottom end of favorites on the album. But great rhymes throughout. Still has Hardy’s cleverness throughout. Has some southern patriotic stuff in it. I just think it might be covered up on this monster of an album
3. Wait in the truck- going back to when this came out I remember thinking they are changing the landscape of what is released these days in country music. Covering a topic that is taboo in mainstream mostly and especially as detailed as the storyline lyrics are compared to others like “thunder rolls” . Personally I believe it was a big statement that was needed. Domestic violence is so common. I’m sure it’s touched a lot of listeners. One reason it charted as well as it did. Having Lainey in it really boosted her career as well. Music video was a killer( pun intended) brought back the old school movie style videos.
4. Drink one for me- sad/happy point of view from someone that’s died and gone to heaven that you used to do all the fun things in your life with. The clever way of staying in that point of view makes you appreciate the time you have on this earth.
5. I in country- one of my favorite hooks of the album. Taking from there’s no I in team famous saying Hardy puts in his life. Or any country boys life that wants that life forever with someone in the country. You really feel it might be for his wife. I think that is what makes good country love songs good. You feel like it’s what they are really feeling in their life.
6. Screen- So one of those songs that will get you pi**ed off at the world we are in and even more what kind of world our kids will grow up in. The screens that consume us really takes away for us living. And feeling alive. Spot on for this album, his fan base, and the world needs to hear.
7. Happy- right now today is the song I keep coming back to. One of the best written songs on the album. Again hardy takes you to a place that isn’t touched much. And from “happy” point of view. Like happy is a person. For me it separates the times in your life when you thought you were happy. Kinda like paisley’s “then”. Like before we were happy we done all kinds of stuff while we were searching for happiness. It makes you stop and realize happy is what we are looking for but sometimes we don’t know what we looking for. Then it also gets on a whole world concept. How hate is destroying us. Big time song Hardy. 10/10
8. Here lies country music- so this one got lost in the early releases. It’s a opinion pushed song that needed to be released. The play with words of how country music has died but it’s ok . The new country can be good too. And he brings it back on the bridge. I think it’s Hardy showing his respect for country music since he’s a cross-genre artist
9. The mockingbird & the crow- so this song for me changed everything I ever thought about a song coming out. No one has ever done this in the industry. This song is the album. This song is the concept. This song is what Hardy wants to be. Regardless of what the industry tells him. This song is the conversion song for the whole album. Which no one has done before. It will never get the radio play but to me this song is what will staple Hardy as a legend in the industry years to come. Also if you’re having a bad day. Just turned it on. It will fire you up.
10. Sold Out- so now the conversion has happened. We are on the rock side of the album. Sold out was the first song released. I think everyone was surprised by how hard Hardy got on this song. He’s rocking out country lyrics. It’s a great walk out song. Another industry punch in the face. Example of what Craig wiseman and big loud shirt is letting Hardy do. Letting him be genius.
11. Jack- so the night this released I stayed up for. This was before we knew what the album was gonna be. Before we knew there’s a country & rock side. This song just made me love his writing into a different level. To write a pretty much love song with alcohol in a 00s rock song . I mean you’re not gonna not listen. On a personal level growing up in a family with alcohol can be problem it kinda makes you appreciate it in a weird way.
12. Truck bed- this one grew on me. But when it did, it did. Usually when I first listen to a song I’m dissecting the lyrics. Honestly these lyrics are silly. But hell so cleaver. The rhyme scheme put together with this killer melody is a every listen on the road with windows down. The feel in this track the lyrics could be about anything and it would be good.
13. 30.06- Hardy stays with the theme of pi***ng off his woman with this one. Another way to rock out country lyrics. I believe this track will be played a lot in young redneck dudes all over. That’s what he does . Covers all his listeners. Everyone gonna have their favorite song. Also second song he referenced another one of his other songs in a song.
14. I ain’t in the country no more- so this one really got my attention last night when I listened. The imagery brought me back to when I left to live in Nashville, St. Louis, & Austin. The home sick pulls when your everyday culture is imbedded. It also shows how we adjust though but still show respects of where you’re from. The studio work on this one is pretty bad ass also. Love the live sirens and city sounds in the background. This will be come back to song I feel.
15. Radio Song- this one hardy wanted everyone to respond to on his TikTok. This one is a heavy hitter towards country radio. It’s like he knows what he’s gotta do to sell songs to make money in the industry . And he does. He’s got monster main stream cuts. But don’t mean he always likes them. I believe that’s why he did what he did to this album. Just to show his fans this is what does. And he’s good. To me this is more of a advertisement song to let everyone know he can do what he wants. Not a real song
16. Kill s**t till I die- so first time I feel hardy gets political. With the 2nd amendment can be controversial he makes sure he lets everyone know he’ll have his guns til he dies. As a form of survival statement made that he’ll have a better chance of doing that with his land and a gun. Very metal approach to this one. Most everyday outdoorsman will head bang to this one
17. The redneck song- last song on album. And probably on my bottom too. He’s being funny mostly because he grew up in that redneck atmosphere in small town Mississippi but the lyric rhymes in this song just shows how good he is.
