Now that 2024 is out the door, I can look back at MY favorite shots from the past year, a year which saw joy and heartbreak, tears and smiles, music and sports and books and movies and compassion and rage and ups and downs.

So, a year much like any other year. And yet, different and all its own.

My 12 favorite shots- an arbitrary number because I believe that to be a good photographer, you have to be a strong editor, too. Yes, I could pick 20...but are they the ones that represent my work, my year? Dunno.

I pulled these twelve because there's something I really like about each of then. Maybe it's the person in the photo, maybe the circumstances around shooting the photo, maybe there was a technical skill I achieved making the photo, maybe a high-water personal mark for me (shooting Bruce in an major arena, hell yeah, qualifies 😀) Maybe all of the above.

Or maybe it just makes me think back to a really damn good day, and that memory makes me smile.

Each photo has a backstory as to why I like it, but you have to click the link below to go to my website to read more (more website work, less algorithms and bots this year😉) No paywall, not asking you to subscribe for "member content". Just my photos and words.

So here's to 2024. Now it's time to clear the cards, back up your work, make prints, and start fresh.

Onwards, to whatever this new year holds. Hold on to those moments whatever you do.

And it’s been a long December and there’s reason to believeMaybe this year will be better than the lastI can’t remember all the times I tried to tell myselfTo hold on to these mom…

Here we are mid-November. The leaves are nearly all off the trees now as we struggle and plod through a horrible drought here in New Jersey and elsewhere.

The political climate has left many uneasy - me being one.

But that's no excuse to not keep going, to not keep beauty in our lives. However ugly it may seem as a whole, we still need to do our part - as people - to keep a light shining, especially if we consider ourselves artists, creators, musicians, writers, photographers.

While there, find links to good stuff like, my favorite image of the week, via Blair Bunting; some visual inspiration via Miley Cyrus and Steve Meisell; amazing graffiti via The Great Big Story; photographer Charles Traub's Do's and Dont's, via FlakPhoto; a wonderful story about a man and horses in the The New York Times and shot by Jay Kolsch; a heartbreaking story about making portraits of children killed in school shootings via Washington Post and photographer Lou Bopp and a look back in the JSP archives to November 16, 2009, when I shot ! That was fun.

All this, plus what I read, watched and listened to this week.

I've been blogging about , and my photography, for 16 years now. November 11, 2008, was my first post on WordPress. It wasn't much, but it was a start. Something to be said for consistency, I guess.😃

Here it is.

So…here I go. After much debate and consideration, I’ve decided to start this photography blog. While I’m active on Flickr and JPG Magazine and Imagekind (where you can buy my pri…
