A great story about a great player:

Looking at the Sports in Kansas Top Sports Moments of 2024

Jared Casey of Plainville HS (town population of 1,698) went from a small town walk-on to a known name in college football, earning first team All-Big 12 honors this fall at fullback as a senior. Casey was the 1A Sports in Kansas Player of the Year in 2019 before walking on to KU as virtually an unknown player outside of people who pay attention to small school sports in Kansas. In 2021 that changed as he caught the 2 point coversion as a freshman that would beat Texas after only playing because of injuries to other players. From then on, he showed he just needed an opportunity as he has been a known name over the last three years to Jayhawks & a big reason for their improvement under Lance Leipold. Not only was Casey a star football player in high school, he was also all state as a basketball player and thrower in track and field. Casey’s next stop will be preparing for the NFL. Casey pictured in the fall of 2019 in HS.

To be clear: Freelance Kansas is a boutique marketing firm, and the name plays on Free Kansas and the Bleeding Kansas period of history.
