I have to say that Tiny, the dog that I adopted in October 2023 has been the biggest blessing of my life In quite some time. I lost my previous shar pei to a brain tumor in October of 2022, and before that I lost my last living family member, my mother and huge Lawrence Humane Society supporter, Dr. Janice C. Dunwell.
So this incoming “positive” in my life has been a huge thing. Tiny, out of all the dogs that I have owned in all of my 62 years, has to be the most human acting dog of all. She comes about as close to making true human gestures as any dog I do believe. She must have x-ray vision because she does not skip a beat of anything outside and she lovea to rotate from window to window, door to door….
I have to thank whoever owned her previously for taking such good care of her and keeping her so well trained. I was going to teach her to “shake” with both paws - but when that word came out of my mouth, first she raised her left paw, then her right paw. Almost comical. I am partially hearing impaired and she does alert me when someone knocks on my door with her very deep, gruff sounding bark which thankfully I can clearly hear.
And also, not to forget, I am very thankful for the Pet Resouurce Center/Veterinary Clinic and the Crisis Pet Retention Fund.
I, too, have been a regular Lawrence Humane Society supporter for more than 30 years. I have always found that if any area shelter truly has their hearts in the right place, it has been the Lawrence Humane Society Most certainly does.
Last but not least, thankfully we all have the wonderful Ms.Shannon Wells, Executive Director, Lawrence Humane Society on board now - a HUGE asset to our community and the shelter alike.
Best,
Erik Jon
