Statement from Chief Kevin Thompson:

At 11:44 am, on 11-26-2024, the Franklin Springs Police Department was dispatched to Royston Animal Hospital, located at 2888 West Main Street, in reference to a “trauma-specify” event. Upon arrival on scene, officers with the Franklin Springs Police Department discovered a female with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The female was unconscious and not responding and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. This was a self-contained incident and there is no threat to the public. No further details will be provided at this time.

Today is a sad day for our community and what we need now from everyone is prayers for the family and those affected by today’s event. I would like to personally thank the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County EMS, Franklin County Coroner’s Office, Royston Police Department, Franklin Springs Fire Department, Franklin County 911, and all other First Responders that responded and assisted us today. I would also like to commend the staff of Royston Animal Hospital for their bravery and their compassion today.
