Yesterday I attended a funeral service for someone that I not only called "friend" but someone I truly loved. I have known David Breeden my entire life. For many years I headed up the Christmas Cheer drive at Old Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church. The congregation adopts 1-2 families each year to sponsor through Christmas Cheer in Laurinburg, helping to make someone else's Christmas a bit more joyous. We would put a small Angel Tree in our foyer with various paper angels that folks can take, purchase an appropriate gift and return it to the church to be delivered sometime before Christmas Day. David would always come to me and hand me a cash donation then he would lean in and whisper in my ear "if you need more, just let me know". Over the last couple of years, he would greet me with a hug that only David could give (enveloping and loving) and he would tell me "I love you". I still find it hard to believe that he's no longer here in the physical sense. Old Laurel Hill Church will miss him, the community will miss him, I WILL MISS HIM. In my eyes David was one of those few people you meet in life that you truly believe will outlive all of us. Kim, Davie, Amy, Jason, your dad was one of a kind. He will forevermore hold a special place in the hearts of so many. Betty, may God give each of you peace and comfort. RIP my friend.
