Over the past few days, Swordfish helped a candidate for a North Jersey cannabis dispensary navigate a potentially harmful article in the Star Ledger about the appearance of political influence on the city's licensing process. We researched the issue, advised the client, and helped craft a response to the reporter's questions. The story ran on Monday, the same day as the city council was set to vote. George Santos' nascent Congressional office made a major PR blunder yesterday, putting out a news release stating that he'd been sworn in when no members of Congress have yet been. We're guessing the timing of the release was scheduled in advance, and nobody thought to stop it when the House failed to elect a speaker. Always be sure to dot the i's and cross the t's before pushing out your news, or you'll get major egg-face.

Rep.-elect George Santos (R-NY) posted a press release saying he was sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives by the speaker of the House. The only problem is there currently is no speaker of the House, and thus no one was sworn in on Tuesday.
