Today marks the 40th anniversary of Apple's iconic "1984" commercial.

The ad introduced the country to the new Macintosh computer, was produced by the advertising agency Chiat/Day and was directed by filmmaker Ridley Scott.

It has since become one of the most acclaimed commercials ever made, and inspired the tradition for the Super Bowl serving as a showcase for large scaled, attention-grabbing commercials.

Many today only watch the game FOR the commericals.

Happy 40th to one of the greatest ads, Super Bowl or otherwise, of all time.
