Unfiltered Soul

Unfiltered Soul is the brainchild of Rob Alahn from Chicago, Ill, Doug Wilcox from Newark, N.J. and Nori Traxx from Nagasaki, Japan. The name Unfiltered Soul was derived from our love of Nigori Unfiltered Sake. One late afternoon, Doug brought a bottle of this goodness over to Rob's house. We were doing an impromptu recording with some deep house music. During this recording, we got tipsy and dec

ided to dedicate the mix to the drink - Unfiltered Sake, Unfiltered Soul sessions. This became a ritual and we started naming all of our recordings using this brand. This was later changed to "Unfiltered Soul" because we thought this had a much better ring to it. Moreover "Unfiltered Soul", represents our overarching philosophy and approach to music and life. We don't filter, edit or rehearse the lives we live or the music we play. Inspired by those things that matter--we move. Metaphorically speaking, in life as well as on the turntables we simply hit play and record. Whatever happens happens...It's unplanned, unscripted, unrehearsed...THIS is UNFILTERED SOUL!!!! Where is The Downtown Cocktail Room? The Downtown Cocktail Room is located at 111 S Las Vegas Blvd Las Vegas, NV 89101. This sits right in the heart of Fremont East (old Las Vegas). It is considered a "Speakeasy". DCR prides itself on hand-crafted premium cocktails made by some of the most talented mixologists in Las Vegas. DCR also is one of the few places that has consistently supported deep house music...from day one which was 6 years ago! Unfiltered Soul has been playing this venue for 4 years and counting. We are proud to say that we have total creative freedom. It was Rob's idea to start broadcasting live from DCR every Wed night. We wanted to reach out beyond Las Vegas to show that there is much more to LV than just the Strip. We are also giving the listener an unusual experience of not just seeing us live, but also chatting with us while we're playing. This is also where/when we met Nori. Nori was in the chat and invited Rob to play in Japan. He smashed it and in turn invited Nori to come to the US. Nori smashed it! And we knew we had something! The Music

If I had to put a label on our flavor of deep house, I would have to say "Soulful". That is the roots of our sets. We can branch off of that into jazzy, melodic, afrocentric, tribal, progressive, disco, and even ambient. We can go from Josh Milan to Dimitri Maxx and beyond. For us it all fits together. We do not plan or script our sets. We hit the dj booth, plug in our gear into the house system, and just hit record and go. Rob, Nori and I can play off each other and we never know what the other person is going to do. This makes it exciting for us as well as for the listener. It also proves that there is musical chemistry. We don't take ourselves seriously because it's all love. During our sets you may hear mixes fall off, but that is the risk of just playing from the heart...I can live with that. Our mission:
