Meet Simon Apex, co-owner of Shrine Studios
Simon began his musical journey in the early 90s within the UK Rave scene, quickly diving into music production using Cubase on an Atari 1040ST. By the mid-90s, he had introduced harder electronic dance styles to the USA, producing hundreds of singles for labels like Warner, Sony, and Ministry of Sound. Simon also pioneered the “Breaks and Bass” sub-genre in Hardcore, a precursor to modern Drum & Bass.
In the mid-2000s, Simon returned to the UK as Head of Technical for Avid & Pro Tools’ European distribution, where he became a professional audio instructor. He trained clients ranging from private studios to government entities like the British Army and European police forces, and led major Avid corporate events and trade shows.
Returning to the USA in 2012, Simon transitioned to Logic Pro and founded the Computer Music Workshop series in Northern California, teaching audio production to hundreds. Now based in Las Vegas, Simon co-owns Shrine Studios, working with iconic artists who collectively boast numerous Billboard hits, Grammy nominations, and wins.
