In the course of their divorce proceedings, a startling development has emerged as Iman Shumpert seeks a portion of the music royalties earned by Teyana Taylor prior to their marriage. This information came to light during discussions aimed at finalizing their child support agreement. According to sources, Teyana Taylor's monthly earnings are double that of her estranged husband, Iman Shumpert. Shumpert has requested the judge to award him half of Taylor's royalties from her pre-marriage music projects. In addition, details of Shumpert's financial situation have been revealed, including significant monthly expenses totaling $112,500. His expenditures include $14,000 on dining out, $14,000 on his podcast, and over $6,000 on video music production each month. Despite these substantial expenses, Shumpert has proposed paying $8,000 per month in child support.
The Drake, Kendrick drama continues, this time in the form of big tech, music labels, lawsuits and artificial intelligence. A group of major record labels, represented by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), is suing two AI startups, Suno and Uncharted Labs (developer of Udio), for allegedly using copyrighted music without permission to train their AI systems.
The RIAA, acting on behalf of labels such as Sony Music Entertainment, UMG Recordings, and Warner Records, has filed copyright infringement lawsuits against Suno and Uncharted Labs. The lawsuits claim that these companies used unlicensed sound recordings to train their AI models.
So what exactly is Udio? Founded by former Google DeepMind researchers, Udio, is known for creating “BBL Drizzy,” an AI-generated song that went viral during a dispute between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Udio aims to make it “easy for anyone to create emotionally resonant music in an instant” and raised $10 million in funding in April. Suno, which enables users to create songs with simple prompts and relies on OpenAI’s ChatGPT for lyrics, raised $125 million last month.
Get this, RIAA CEO Mitch Glazier stated that the lawsuits are “necessary to reinforce the most basic rules of the road for the responsible, ethical, and lawful development of generative AI systems and to bring Suno’s and Udio’s blatant infringement to an end.” He emphasized that while the music community is collaborating with responsible developers, unlicensed services exploit artists’ work without consent or compensation.
Back in April, over 200 artists, including Billie Eilish, Kacey Musgraves, and Jon Bon Jovi, signed an open letter organized by the Artist Rights Alliance, urging AI developers to stop using AI to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists.
For all you legal eagle junkies, the lawsuit against Udio notes that “if developed with the permission and participation of copyright owners, generative AI tools will be able to assist humans in creating and producing new and innovative music.” However, it warns that irresponsible development without respect for copyright protections could harm artists, labels, and the music industry, reducing the quality of new music and diminishing cultural value.
The lawsuit against Suno claims that the platform has over 10 million users generating music files, resulting in about 2 million streams. These files compete with copyrighted recordings without giving credit or compensation to the original artists.
Udio and Suno have not yet responded to requests for comment from media outlets that reported this story.

(FOX5) has learned the identities of the two victims and the suspect in a shooting at a Summerlin law firm.

On Monday morning, Las Vegas police and firefighters responded to a building in the 10800 block of West Charleston Boulevard, near downtown Summerlin around 10:04 a.m. Police confirmed that two victims and a suspect died during the shooting.
The shooting broke out during a child custody deposition at Prince Law Group, located on Charleston Boulevard and Pavilion Center Drive, lawyer Robert Eglet told FOX5.
Joe Houston, a Las Vegas attorney, has been identified as the gunman, and allegedly shot two people before turning the gun on himself. Dennis Prince and Ashley Prince were identified as the victims, Eglet told FOX5. A family member of Dennis Prince also confirmed his death and the details of what led up to the shooting. The Clark County Coroner’s Office has yet to identify the deceased.
Joe Houston was representing his son, Dylan Houston, during the proceedings with his former daughter-in-law, Ashley Prince, who was represented by her new husband, Dennis Prince. Dennis and Ashley have an infant child together.
In an afternoon media briefing, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Lt. Jason Johannson said that the two victims were “very specific targets,” and he added that the suspect reportedly shooed other people away from the suite.
Monday’s proceedings involved a deposition in the former couple’s ongoing custody battle. The suspect reportedly began shooting 3-4 minutes into that meeting.
Police are also searching the suspect’s home near Buffalo and Desert Inn. Lt. Johansson noted that “quite a bit of evidence collection needs to take place” at the Prince Law Group suite.
Other areas of the building are expected to re-open soon.
