This is what Im going to call Watch the Throne 2. Ye has went Gospel, and Hov has replaced him with Jay ELEC.
This album was for the old heads that like rap. The climate seems to have changed as of this year with lyricist coming out and releasing new music. The quality of album, and bars has definitely increased and with names still to come like Big Sean, Drake, and Kendrick the reat of the year only gets more exciting from a musical position.
Now as we talk about this album the intro was very hit or miss. So it gets a no grade from me. Track 2, was Ghost of Soulja Slim. I wanted more out of this track as it set the tone for the rest of the album. However, I was left feeling as if it were a middle of the road album track. It wasnt bad or good, just there. I felt as the song didnt progress the album well if at all. Which brings us to “The Blinding” featuring Travis Scott. The blinding had a great feature, great production, and the bars were spectacular. This should have been the second track, to engage the listener into the album. The beat flip was perfect and I think both Hov and Elec showed their skill on this one.
I thought the album ended a bit weak with A.D.I.P.T.A. Ezekiel’s Wheel could have ended this and I would have been fine. While I enjoyed many of the tracks I think the wait, and Legend of Jay ELECTRONICA set such a high level of expectation that he fell just short. The addition of Hov gives this album a boost as well as the production.
My standout tracks for this album. Shiny Suit Theory, Ezekiels Wheel, and The Blinding save this from being a par to subpar album. I still enjoyed it but I must admit that I fell victim to expectations for this LONG awaited debut.
