Kokopelli – New Mexico State University News
Kokopelli, the iconic humpbacked flute player depicted in our logo, is a well-known figure in the American Southwest.
Originally from the Anasazi tribe, Kokopelli is regarded as a fertility god, a healer, a teacher and storyteller. Some people have referred to Kokopelli as the first “journalist” in the area because, according to legend, he used to travel from village to village spreading news about the weather and the incoming harvest seasons.
As journalism students we are storytellers. We are the kokopellies of modern times. And in addition to the written word, we are telling stories using a variety of other media including video, photo, audio, graphics and maps.
Kokopelli-nmsu.com is a news website produced by students enrolled in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at New Mexico State University. We are steadfastly committed to truth, accuracy, fairness and professionalism. Kokopelli is a member publication of the Associated Collegiate Press. The website has been created for educational purposes only.
