Here are your Pets of the over at The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley. Rusty is your Cat of the Week -I’m a young kitten who has spent my whole life at ASCMV. Now that my siblings have found their furever homes, it’s my turn to find a loving family! I can be a bit shy around humans, but I promise I’m easy to handle. My favorite place is cuddling with my mom; I feel most comfortable by her side. Since my siblings left, I’ve become a little less playful, but I’m ready to thrive in a home where I can feel safe and play freely. If you’re looking for a young kitten who can grow old with you, I might just be the purr-fect match for you!

Talia is your Dog of the Week-When I first arrived at ASCMV, I was quite shy but now that I’m meeting more people and getting out more, I’m growing every day! Once I am out of my kennel getting to explore, I blossom into a more adventurous and confident dog. I’m eager to learn and build my confidence with love and patience. I love treats and enjoy rolling over for belly rubs! I get along with other dogs and would thrive in a home that can give me the attention and affection I crave. If you’re looking for a loving companion to grow with, I’d love to meet you! If you are interested in any of these babies please head to the shelter and give them their forever home soon. You can call the shelter at (575)382-0018
We hope they find their forever homes soon.

Fireworks Can Be Stressful for Pets, Livestock

The sights and sounds of fireworks being discharged can leave dogs, cats and farm animals frightened and overwhelmed during the Independence Day holiday season.

Domestic pets and livestock may hide, run away or become stressed when startled by fireworks. Dogs, particularly, may show signs of anxiety such as whining, whimpering, panting and restlessness when fireworks are ignited nearby.

Having a dog or cat microchipped is one of the best safeguards to ensure a pet can be returned home if it’s lost or runs away. Pet owners are encouraged to have their dogs and cats microchipped. They should also verify that their contact information is accurate and complete.

The City of Las Cruces encourages pet owners to implement a safety plan and follow basic tips to help keep their pets safe and calm when fireworks are discharged:

• Provide your dog with a safe area – possibly a closet or interior space away from exterior walls and windows – that’s quiet and free from outdoor noises and lights.
• Physically distance your pets from where fireworks are being used.
• Ensure your pet has a collar and is properly tagged or chipped.
• Do not leave a dog tied up, outdoors or alone when fireworks are being used nearby.
• Consider closing all doors and windows and using sound, such as TV or radio, to help lessen the noises caused by fireworks.
• Refrain from discharging fireworks near livestock corrals or where they are boarded.

More tips are available in the Latest News section on the City's website.

Those who use fireworks are encouraged to be respectful of pets and livestock that reside nearby.
