Las Cruces News October 15, 2021: The only seat with Rank Choice selection, City Council District 5, will present themselves in a Live debate/Forum on Tuesday October 19 at 7pm. Four Candidates for District 5 will be in a live studio forum, taking questions from two commentators, Former City Council and Mayor Pro-Tem, Greg Smith and Business owner Marci Dickerson. Both commentators are both very well versed in the Las Cruces infrastructure. The organization that is presenting this forum ran a series of 10 forum/debates in the 2020 election. It was reported that the over 30,000 viewers watched the series state wide.
The reason they dub it Forum/Debate is that. the candidates get to ask each other challenge questions, and the commentators will get a chance to followup with a question also. The producers will also accept questions Live from the Facebook viewers. Overall the Forum/Debate is very well run and perhaps offers the most engagement of all the forums. Every candidate has accepted to go live except Becky Corran which the producers said, Corran is deciding if she want to be in a live debate and have to take unrehearsed questions from the community. We will have to wait and see if Corran attends. Regardless, the Forum/Debate will go on. Good luck to all the candidates.

Official Notice: The date is set for the City Council District 5, Forum/Debate. This is the most sought after seat with four candidates, who will battle for your vote. This is a Live in studio face to face forum. Commentators will be former Councilor and Mayor Pro-Tem, Greg Smith. Business owner, and Founder at Revolution 120, Marci Dickerson and the forum will be moderated by founder of Center For Non-Partisan Civic Engagement, Arturo Uribe. Each candidate will be given a series of questions, and some questions will come directly from Facebook viewers. Candidates were not given any questions prior to forum. Each candidate will have a chance to ask a direct question to the challenging candidates. Finally, each moderator will have a chance to come back with a follow-up questions to a answer given. We need to respect these candidates that felt it important to come to the voting community and present their views and be transparent by taking direct questions from the public. This is the only rank choice elected seat this election in Las Cruces. Let the Forum/Debate begin.

Las Cruces News, N.M. (LCN) THE SEARCH FOR JINGO GOES ON: In a story first released by the Las Cruces Channel on Wednesday October 6th , after the owner contacted the local TV station the Las Cruces Channel for help in regards to a dog named Jingo who was in transport from Los Angeles to San Antonio, TX. by a hired company, Blue Collar Pet Transport Service out of Orlando, Florida.
According to an interview with the owner of Blue Collar Pet Transport, Rick Hardy. The transport service was in route with four other canines in their own kennels in a transport van. The transport van stopped at the Love’s gas station on Tuesday evening at 380 Alliance Drive just off the I-10 fwy. “It is procedure to make stops so that the dogs can be walked around with a leash for exercise and other necessary needs. Apparently the handler prematurely opened the cage and attempted to place the leash on Jingo when Jingo bit the handler. The handler jumped back and Jingo jumped out of the cage and ran into the desert” said owner Rick Hardy. “The handler tried looking for Jingo for 24 hours. Jingo was a listed as a high risk transport which requires special precautions. Hardy said “We have had some dogs escape before, but were always able to recapture within a short period. This one has been more of a challenge.”
According to the owners of Jingo they believe the transport company were negligent in the handling of Jingo and should have never left her out in the desert. Hardy stated that, after 24 hours of looking for Jingo, the driver was instructed to complete the transport to its destination.
Hardy said that they have been in contact with the owner Monika Cirsch, and currently sending an experienced handler to help in the search and capture. Hardy has offered to pay for the owner’s complete flight to El Paso and a rental car. Hardy has also refunded the full transport fee. “It is not about the money, it’s about the safe recovery of Jingo. We know what a devastation this is to the dog’s owners. We will do what needs to be done to find Jingo” Said Hardy.

The best advice Hardy gave, is to leave food and water so Jingo can be hydrated and feed. If you see Jingo, only try to keep an eye on the location, but do not chase as we do not want him to run further in the desert.
The runaway dog does have a flight collar that gives off a ping and can be seen by an IPhone although the service seems to be sporadic. A reporter at KTSM 9 said they had seen Jingo while doing a report, but Jingo quickly darted into the desert.
Jingo owners told Las Cruces News, they are really moved by the out-pour of support and love from the Las Cruces Community. They want to let everyone know that Las Cruces is such a special city, unlike any other.
If you have any information about sighting or if you have Jingo, you can contact the Las Cruces Channel. They are in regular contact with the owner and will help in the return.

Las Cruces News: October 6, 2021 Las Cruces is on search for this cute Jingo mix dog that ran away on Monday evening about 10pm at the Love's gas station. He was on a transport to his family when the transport company handlers took him out for a bathroom break and he ran. The canine was nervous since he was not with his family. He originally was a shelter rescue and the family says they are devastated that he is missing. " He has become a special part of our family. He loves everyone." says the owner. The owners asked every news outlet for help in Las Cruces for help with no response. "The Las Cruces Channel Network was the only media company that responded and said they would help spread the word. I appreciate the kindness of all the efforts by the beautiful people of Las Cruces" Said the owners. If found you can contact the Las Cruces Channel via messenger at Las Cruces Channel.

Las Cruces News October 5, 2021 (Las Cruces) – Albertsons Companies Foundation awarded ACTion Programs for Animals (APA) a $10,000 grant to go toward APA’s Prisoners and Animals Working Toward Success (P.A.W.S.) training program.
APA has been administering the P.A.W.S. program since 2016 and does so in partnership with the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility. APA has sent hundreds of dogs to this program for rehabilitation and training. Inmates train shelter dogs in basic obedience and potty training to ready them for their forever homes. Animal adopters often specifically request dogs that are graduates of this program.
APA Executive Director Michel Meunier said the funding will be instrumental in the continued success of the P.A.W.S. Program.
“Because of the successful P.A.W.S. Program, we are able to rescue many more dogs from the municipal shelter,” said Meunier. “Now with this generous grant from Albertsons Companies Foundation, we will be able to help rescue, train and adopt out even more dogs. In the end, both the prisoners and the dogs benefit.”
