Carlos Flores recently sued the State of Texas for its deployment of the buoy barriers along the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass. Gov. Greg Abbott responded by stating that he will fight the lawsuit all the way up to the Supreme Court if necessary. Valentin Ruiz is seeking a position on the LISD board. He is a teacher and a former member of the mililtary where he was a sniper. He is a strong proponent of the JROTC programs at the high schools and thinks support and funding for this valuable program is lacking which is one of the reasons he is running. He is also an activist and has participated in the No Border Wall Coalition and the Clean Air Coalition among others.

The cleaning contract scandal at UISD has become a flashpoint in this year's elections with citizens outraged and candidates campaining on the issue. Board member Frank Castillo who spoke out early in protest of the contract and tried to get the board to rescind it but failed talks to us about what happened.

She served in the Navy and since coming back home to Laredo has been a part of numerous movements like No Border Wall Coalition, the Clean Air Coalition, and others.
