Knoebels Amusement Resort
Monday was the third day of my (and wife's) CoasterQuest and stopped in at Knoebels, almost in the middle of Pennsylvania. And, we just walked in. REALLY. Knoebels takes you back to the old days. There is no admission to go in and no pay to park. I parked the car, walked right in, and headed for a booth to get ticket books (you can also pay for an all day pass). The major roller coasters were $3.50 per ride. The ones we liked the best were Twister, Phoenix (two wooden coasters) and the steel ride Impulse. They also have a lot of kiddie rides and family rides.
View of Dorney Park
Second day of Coaster fun. Today I was at Dorney Park in Allentown in Eastern PA. It was a hot day, just like mid-Michigan, so I rode as many times on their roller coasters as I could, and between a lot of visits to a water fountain. I shot this view of the park from the gondola on their ferris wheel. 🎡 Tomorrow I'm going to visit a family owned amusement park. Please clouds, don't rain. 🙏🎢
Cedar Point opens this Saturday and the weather looks good. Chilly, but dry. I had a chance Wednesday to ride Steel Vengeance, the roller coaster that was voted "Best New Ride of 2018" in Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards. In fact, I got to ride it twice in a row. The GoPro camera didn't work properly the first time (aw shucks) so I got on and rode it again. Thanks to Kristy Bacni for riding with me and to the great staff for another Media Day preview of the upcoming season. I'll be back on June 7 for Coastermania Day. Now, enjoy the video below. Such a tough job I have.
This is where one of the two tornadoes in Shiawassee County touched down, possibly close to the beginning point. on Winegard Road east of M-52. A stronger tornado began close to I-69, near Perry, and took aim at Vernon.
The annual Bike-To-Build for Habitat for Humanity Clinton-Gratiot is underway. What a beautiful morning. For a donation of $35 you can ride a course of 20, 40, 50, or 80 miles. Hydration stations along the way. The starting has begun for the early birds but there's plenty of time to start your own ride.
Virtual Reality Thrill Ride at Six Flags Great America
For a limited time, June 21 through July 22, experience the new DC SUPER HEROES Drop of Doom VR. Don special Virtual Reality headsets to view the action as SUPERMAN and WONDER WOMAN battle their nemesis, LEX LUTHOR, while plunging over 200 feet!
Buckle into floorless seats and strap on VR headsets and get immersed into a 360-degree virtual world where you will be unwittingly invited by DC Super-Villain, Lex Luthor, to test the newest LexCorp levitation technology.
Highlights of this intense, interactive storyline:
Lex Luthor levitates riders with his anti-gravity ray gun and they begin to float upward, rising high above the skyscrapers;
Wonder Woman and Superman dash to the rescue and an epic battle ensues high in the air over Metropolis;
Wonder Woman clashes with an army of flying LexBots while Superman is in fierce combat with Lex Luthor; and
High in the sky, the battle spins out of control and riders fall a thousand feet—straight down, to the city streets far, far below.
(Riders must be at least 48” tall to ride DC SUPER HEROES Drop of Doom VR, and at least 13 years old to experience VR.)
I got a video of the squall line moving through Lansing around 7:42pm. This was through our front windows. Keep an eye to the lower left toward the end as a squirrel makes a run for cover.
Mardi Gras Hangover
I'm riding the new ride at Six Flags Great America this morning. Enjoy the ride along with me.
I'm at Six Flags Great America, north of Chicago, and I'm planning on doing a Facebook live at 7:20 this morning ON the new thrill ride. I've ridden it once already a it sure is a different ride. Watch if you can.

New Ride At Great America For 2018
Six Flags Great America, north of Chicago, has announced a new ride for 2018. It's the world's largest loop coaster. It will take riders forward and backward on a gigantic loop before suspending them completely upside down for plenty of wicked hang-time. Riders will have unique "face-off" seating and will go through a series of 360° revolutions suspended upside down for the most insane, inverted hang-time of any coaster in the park before reeling down in the opposite direction.
Highlights include:
· World's largest coaster of its kind;
· 100 feet tall;
· 360 degree revolutions with multiple inversions;
· 32 seats in unique "face-off" design, with guests seated back-to-back and face-to-face;
· Inverted hang-time with riders suspended upside down for extended times; and
· The park's 16th coaster.
The new coaster will be named soon and is set to open in spring of 2018.
I'm live right now with WLNS Jorma Duran. We're talking roller coasters and Hurricane Harvey.
