I have a little bit of time left to get some Christmas orders done if you have been bitten by the “shop local” bug. Everything I make in my own shop outside of Albany Ohio and every penny goes to making sure my girls have a wonderful holiday.

I want to thank a few people for making this weekend possible: BFS petroleum for the propane, Hat Feather forge, Dave’s twisted iron works, Ryan Elliot woodworking, Julie’s Dance studio, my wife and kids for all their help and support, Maddie Russel, and especially the Bob Evans Farm festival for allowing us to be their Blacksmith. His was a great weekend

The forge is cooling, the merch is packed up, the tables are folded up and I’ll be packing up the van shortly.

No regrets

I love the Bob Evans farm festival. The staff treats us like rockstars. The crowds are fun. Everyone is so awesome. Can’t wait for next year

Congratulations to Levi Mathews for winning this year’s Bob Evans Farm Festival blacksmithing competition!

Attention backpackers, hunters, trail riders, campers, glampers, bbq Pitt bosses, and backyard fire pit enthusiasts: we’ve got some sweet items and a fun competition in store for the Bob Evans farm festival October 11-13th. Knives, yard art, camping gear, wood work, and 4 sweaty apes mashing steel and telling dad jokes for your enjoyment.

I remember sitting in my cubicle at the Northwest signal newspaper office. Our office was normally a hub of activity, like a bee hive in spring, but on that day it was nearly silent. All stories were put on hold. My coworkers were a perfect illustration of what I’m sure the rest of the country was feeling. Some paced the floor angrily, some held their closest friends while they wept but most of us sat in stunned disbelief at our desks, silent in shock. In that time our small county paper still had a PR news wire machine that gave us the biggest headlines from across the country. Our editor sat at the corner of the desk where the wire rested. It would let out a sound that we all recognized as the signal for incoming news and the entire room would go silent. As it printed out the ticker tape update our editor would read off what the national media outlets learned about the attacks. I remember the gasps, the fear and dread and the feeling of indescribable helplessness that would follow the update.

But I also remember the next day. I remember seeing the country I was fortunate enough to be born in come together. We closed ranks and opened our arms to our neighbors. We got a bloody nose from a sucker punch but we became closer, bigger, stronger as a country. It wasn’t a country divided by politics. We weren’t Republican or Democrat or liberal or conservative. We were just Americans. We stood together as one.

Some of you weren’t born yet or were too young to remember 9/11. Some of you might even think it was faked or some sort of conspiracy. I think that you should all find someone that was watching when the planes hit. Ask them about that day. Then ask them about 9/12/2001 and put your phone down, forget about social media and your precious likes, shut your mouth and listen. See if you can hear the anguish when they talk of the 11th and their pride when they talk about the 12th.

That’s what I celebrate on the 4th of July and what I honor on 9/11

I will be out of town Thursday and Friday this week. If it’s an emergency let me know and I have a few farrier friends that I can try and get ahold of. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Check out these sturdy end tables that my brother in law Ryan built. He’s a true craftsman. DM me for details.
