City of Lander Snow Removal Plan
Full Press Release: https://www.landerwyoming.org/public-works/page/city-lander-snow-removal-plan

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for 3-6 inches of snowfall in the Lander Foothills from 9 AM to 11 PM MST Friday. On Saturday, if the storm results in the expected accumulation, crews will begin clearing first-priority routes, to ensure safety and accessibility. Secondary priority routes will be addressed starting Monday, once primary routes are completed and conditions allow.

We appreciate the community’s patience as our teams work to manage snow removal under potentially challenging conditions. While unforeseen issues, such as equipment breakdowns or water main breaks, may occasionally cause delays, our crews remain dedicated to clearing streets as efficiently and safely as possible.

Safety Around Snow Removal Crews
For everyone’s safety:
-Use caution when driving near snow removal equipment.
-Avoid driving through snow piles located in the center of streets.

Residential Snow Removal Responsibilities
Residents play an essential role in ensuring community safety during snow events. Please adhere to these guidelines:
-Do not push or dump snow from your driveway or sidewalk onto city streets or property. This practice can create hazards for emergency vehicles and other drivers.
-Clear fire hydrants and emergency routes near your property of snow.
-Shovel sidewalks and walking areas promptly, even if there is no concrete sidewalk underneath.
-Empty lots are also required to be cleared of snow.
-Avoid plowing the street in front of your residence.

You may remove snow from the concrete gutter section (18-24 inches wide) and place it into the street to allow for proper drainage of snowmelt.

Parking During Snow Events
To assist snow removal efforts, please avoid parking vehicles on City streets during snow events. This allows crews to remove more snow and ice, improving drainage and overall safety for the community.

In the next few weeks, you might receive a mailing from Service Line Warranties to give you options about sewer line coverage available to eligible Lander homeowners. This is a sample of what the mailing will look like.

Please understand that our logo is on this company's letter, but this is not a program that is managed directly by the City of Lander. We have reviewed Service Line Warranties offerings that they have made available to Lander residents and we believe it is a viable option for service line coverage, should you be interested. We encourage you to also check with your existing homeowners insurance policy, as they might be able to provide similar coverage, or it might already be included in your existing policy.

City of Lander Urges Residents to Take Action Against Freezing Pipes

As the frost level in the ground nears four feet deep in City streets, the City of Lander advises residents to take proactive measures to prevent frozen pipes.

To assist residential customers, the City has temporarily increased the water base rate allowance. Customers with a 5/8" meter will receive an additional 2,000 gallons of water per billing period, in addition to the standard 4,000-gallon base rate—a total of 6,000 gallons at no extra charge. This allowance does not apply to trailer parks or apartment complexes served by master meters without individual billing. February bills will reflect this adjustment.

What Should Residents Do?
If your property is in an area prone to freezing or if you’ve experienced freezing pipes in the past, consider the following steps:
-Run a small stream of water (the size of a pencil lead) from the sink farthest from your water meter. This is usually sufficient to prevent freezing.
-Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around pipes. Be sure to move any harmful cleaners or chemicals out of reach of children and pets.
-Run water periodically from faucets located along exterior walls or in infrequently used spaces to keep water moving throughout your plumbing system.

The City will notify the public when it is safe to stop running water.

Property owners are responsible for maintaining their water service lines up to the connection within the street. The City’s water supply, sourced from the Middle Fork of the Popo Agie River, remains near freezing temperatures, making shallow or unprotected pipes particularly vulnerable to freezing.

For additional questions, please contact City Hall at (307) 332-2870.

A message from the Lander Pioneer Museum:

“P REZ ervation”, The Art of Al Hubbard opens January 17 at the Lander Pioneer Museum. The exhibit presents work of a contemporary Indigenous Fremont County Artist. Ribbon cutting and opening reception January 17, 7 to 9 p.m.

A new exhibit at the Lander Pioneer Museum opening January 17 features to work of Al Hubbard, a contemporary Indigenous artist who lives on the Wind River Reservation. “P REZ ervation,” a retrospective of Hubbard’s work, will open the 17th at 7 p.m. in the museum’s main gallery.

A reception with appetizers and a brief talk by the artist will start at 7 p.m, Following will be a ribbon cutting for the exhibit. The public is invited to come and enjoy the evening. The art will then be on display through 2025.

“Over the last few years, we have featured art and artists of the American west like Joe Scheurle, Frederick Re*****on and J.K. Ralston,” said Museum curator Randy Wise. “We recently closed a show by well-known area artist Jerry Antolick, and are excited to be able to present work from a contemporary Native American artist. Al Hubbard’s work has been in galleries, and shows across Wyoming and the West.” Wise said an intriguing part of Hubbard’s work is his blend of the past with the complexities of life for an Indigenous person in the modern world.

Al Hubbard is a contemporary indigenous artist whose rich cultural heritage and life experiences inform his captivating visual storytelling. Born to a Northern Arapaho mother and Navajo father, Hubbard was raised off the reservation, but later reconnected with his tribal roots upon relocating to the Wind River Reservation in central Wyoming at age 17.

This journey of movement and contrast deeply shaped his perspective, which he now channels through his multimedia practice. Hubbard's paintings seamlessly blend printmaking, photography, and indigenous material culture, creating layers of texture, color, and imagery that reflect the historical complexity and multifaceted realities of Native American identity in the modern world.
