Here's some photos of our recent breakfast we had at The Clubhouse during a stay at Official LEGOLAND Windsor's Woodland Village!
If anything, these photos are proof that with a good camera angle/setting/style, you can make almost anything look great! 😂
Unfortunately, this breakfast didn't hit the (ara)mark 😜
At most Merlin hotels, it's a buffet breakfast of hot/cold/pastries/unlimited drinks from a machine etc and you can get what you fancy. Here, for some bizarre reason, you are presented with a big menu sheet which consists of: pancakes/full English/kids pancakes/kids full English...not much deliberation to be had there then! The server comes over and takes your order, tells you where to get the pastries/cereal/drinks, and then some 20 mins later in our case our food came out, luke warm.
The bacon was the poorest quality, the sausages reminded us of meatless ones (no idea if they were or not!?) as they didn't taste like sausage meat...more like meat flavoured flour😅 Tried one of the pastries instead and it was raw wet pastry on the bottom. The scrambled eggs reminded us of the powdered ones you get at some USA motels for breakfast, and the filter coffee was SO, SO bad...in fact disgusting and served in the worlds tiniest cups. If you wanted a 'nicer' coffee from a machine, you had to pay £5!!
Robyn can't eat this amount of food for breakfast so is generally happy with some eggs, toast and a nice big coffee but man...even she struggled to get full / caffeinated for the day with this offering!
The kids also couldn't eat all they were given (basically half the adult portion). And we saw lots of tables left with uneaten food on them....you're essentially forced to have food you don't want because it isn't a buffet, and what you are given is poor quality, so the amount of food waste here is appalling🥹 We suspect they thought the opposite when coming up with the idea and were trying to eliminate food waste but yeah....not sure it's working! Merlin REALLY, REALLY need to do something about these outside caterers ASAP as it's the same story in the parks and the hotels across the whole estate.
The dining setting itself was quite nice (though the birdsong loop slightly irritating after the first 15 mins or so) with the feeling of being in nature, the little Lego photos on the wall were amusing, and the stage area where you could meet an exclusive character was a nice touch. There was a Lego building table and a Duplo building table in one part of the restaurant too which some kids seemed to be loving, but also slightly giving us the 'ick' thinking of all the food/sticky kids fingers going in there during a meal...
Where we were sat we could see into the kitchen area and the huge 'Remember KPI's and TRIPADVISOR' sign above the kitchen entrance was just....well....not the greatest to be in your sightline as a customer let's just say.....
Overall, this was the worst breakfast we've had in a UK theme park hotel so far, and we really don't think we have high standards! Take snacks!
