As we get ready to celebrate MLK Day, you should watch this new video from Journey Box Media. The dream of a beloved community—a place where we share common ground in areas such as schools, restaurants, buses, etc.—was only half of the dream. MLK also dreamed of a beloved economy—a system that would support the beloved community. The lack of the latter has stunted the actualization of the former. Mayra Hidalgo Salazar was an organizer and the first Clinic Coordinator of the Lakeland Justice For Our Neighbors Clinic. She was also a leader in SWER (Students Working for Equal Rights at Polk State College). Those of us at PCPJ--Lakeland know her as a friend a fellow worker for justice. We took a group to the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Dr. King's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail." The event was in Birmingham and included speakers such as Rep. John Lewis, Dr. Dorothy Cotton, Dr. Virgil Wood, Bryan Stevenson, Jim Wallis, and Ron Sider.
