I’m coming home for one day only!! Limited riso print, mugs, sculptures and all up to 40% off???

That’s right, this Sunday from 10am-4pm I’ll be hanging out at Lovejoy’s Tearoom in Florence, Oregon as a participant of the Elements of Art Studio Tour - and I am so jazzed about it! Come drop by, say hi, and take a look at what I’ve been making.

Check out this limited edition risograph print I made specifically for this event and all of the incredible people that have supported me and helped me get to where I am today.

You may also recognize the piece in this photo from my last exhibition - I’m bringing work that I have kept and loved to share with you all and I’m offering special discounts of up to 40% off gallery prices!

You are not going to want to miss this - see you there Florence!

New form goofin’! Yesterday in the drink-ware class I’m teaching we were playing with compound hand built forms and it was so so fun.

Way back when I started in ceramics almost all of my mugs were hand built forms - it was something about the texture and charm of a wonky slab mug that made me so happy. I’m not exactly sure when or why(probably when I started high quantity production) I left slab building behind a bit. Though, playing with slabs with my students has definitely reawakened my love for these silly little forms.

The bottom of each of these pieces is a small hump molded bowl and coil foot for the slab cylinder to sit on top of. I’m really enamored with the soft complexity and playfulness of these pieces and can’t wait to make more.

What do you think I should do for glazing? I’m thinking of underglazing each piece a different color then lining the inside with clear 🤔 let me know in the comments!

Swipe to see these mugs glazed!!!

I’ve been working with this new clay body for my mugs and I have finally gotten a round of tests out with glaze. I really like these white and mint colored pieces but the other ones I’m not too sure of.

It stands to show that just because a glaze works well on a white clay body, it doesn’t mean it will be the same on a darker one! Often the iron in red/brown clays will activate glaze chemistry in different ways making completely different colors. What do you think about these colors??

This morning I am sitting in my living room and looking out over a foggy fall morning. The trees are so so pretty right now, so I thought I’d share a pot with a tree on it.

This form was super fun to make but before it ad the tree on it I was pretty unimpressed and worried about the “shape.” But sometimes the surface of a pot just asks for what it wants and this pot wanted a douglas fir tree. This one’s for you Oregon!

Where are you all from?

This piece was so incredibly fun to make(and by that I mean it was a huge huge challenge).

If you’ve been following me then you’d know that this was the second time that I had to sculpt this because the first time I dropped it and it broke into a bunch of pieces! And ya know what, I just made another one. And that “other one” ended up being leaps and bounds better because of what I learned creating the first one.

This sculpture, titled “Fruits of Temptation and Labor,” was the featured piece in my last exhibition. It was intended to speak about my identity as a q***r person and relearning that what I was taught to be temptation was actually beautiful fruit that I was deserving of. Though, the piece created a second meaning for itself in its title: the fruit of pushing through the temptation to give up. I don’t know why, but most of my favorite pieces have broken at some point in the journey to completion!

What does this piece mean to you when you look at it??

What do you want?!?! I am asking you all but I’m also asking myself that about the content that will be going up here.

Documentation can be really difficult for an artist - especially a ceramic artist. Taking pictures of pottery is hard! So, some direction is something we all need.

But… Aha! I photographed every single piece that was in my last exhibition as I took it down from the gallery. What does that mean? Oh yeah bb, it means you will be seeing each and everyone of those pots over the next few months as I learn to be better at documenting as I go.

There is also something nice about having that much content stored up too. It’s no secret that I’ve dealt with burn out on this account over the years. Batching all of that is really going to help me keep up with posting and sharing my passion with you all - because I really do love to share with you.

Excited to show you some cool pots!

Living in abundance - I will be dreaming back about this experience for the rest of my life: firing along side a few dozen beautiful and wonderful q***r people. I left feeling hopeful and just full in general. Firing this kiln and creating with these people felt like defiance in the face of all the hate and destruction in our world. Thank you to .world and for organizing such a life giving program. 🌈 ***rjoy

Getting excited about our wood/soda fire unload tomorrow!!! It’s always the day before the pots come out of the kiln that I start getting antsy. So for now I’ll dream about this magical pot that I unloaded from the Anagama in January.

This “Trillium Vessel” was wood fired and reduction cooled at - which is why is has all of that magical crystal growth and color. This piece was front and center at the mouth of the Anagama, though all of this color is on the side facing away from the flames. Check out the last pic to see it in the kiln!
