Gopher Tortoises are an important indicator species for pine forests, their absence has shown to have a negative cascading effect on those ecosystems overall healthy. They are important for seed distribution, vegetation control, and their burrows provide much needed shelter for many other species of reptiles and mammals alike. Also, their burrows create a series of natural fire breaks and help control the spread of wildfires.

Had a great time in Jacksonville Florida! Checked out the UNF Nature Trail and got to see one of my favorite North American reptile species the endangered Gopher Tortoise!!!! This was a good day indeed 🖖

🦎👀 Exciting news! Our two crested geckos, Terrifier and Wednesday, have been paired up for breeding! This is Terrifier's first season and Wednesday's third season breeding, so we're thrilled to see what their babies will look like. 🤩

Terrifier is a stunningly patterned gecko with semi bold markings, while Wednesday has a more subtle but equally beautiful appearance. We are hoping this pairing will really bring out some bold dalmatian patterns. We can't wait to see how their genetics combine to create unique and beautiful offspring.

Stay tuned for updates on their progress, as we eagerly anticipate the arrival of their little ones. 🐣🌱 In the meantime, let us know in the comments below what you think their babies will look like! 👇

As always it's a great day to be a zookeeper. Sudi is the female mandrill and the cutest baby gorilla Bruno, I also stopped by to say hi to the Asian One horned Rhino. Wildlife is important you guys without these animals in it the world would be a much worse place to be. Make sure to support your local zoo and conservation agencies.🖖

Pics of JJ the male Mandrill and Chantek one of the female Orangutans I work with at zoo enjoying some snacks at lunchtime the other day. These animals are amazing and I'm very greatful I have the opportunity to work with them every day. Zoos are very important for spreading awareness about the threats these species and the habitats they call home face everyday. Unfortunately spreading awareness isn't enough there needs to be direct action, that's why it's important to support organizations like that actually help save habitat and reintroduce species into those habitats. Please visit the BOS website and donate if you can or just share their stuff around social media and help spread the word. and his organization are doing great work around the world to help these animals and make sure we still have them around for future generations. These animals are important to the environment without them life is going to be much harder for us as humans. 🖖

I would like to introduce yall to baby Bruno!!!! He's the week old Western Lowland Gorilla born at the Fort Worth Zoo here in Texas! Cuddled up with his momma Gracie she's a good mom, he's nursing well and everything is looking great!!! 🖖🖖🖖❤️🖤❤️🖤

Joanna's in shed but still looking gorgeous 😍 we love this girl so much (one of our rescues) these amazing arboreal lizards can be found in Tanzania. There are insectivores meaning they eat a strict diet of bugs (do not feed them gecko diet) can be a bit darty at times but with regular handling they are great reptile pets and so much fun to watch.

Some African Painted Dogs for yall this morning. This species and the Spotted Hyenas are my favorite carnivores on earth! The Painted Dogs are one of the most successful hunters, this is due to the fact they are pack hunters with great stamina and their ears rotate like radar dishes giving them the ability to hear prey from much farther away than their competitors. We got some Gibbons and Bonobo action this morning! Nikki, Pippin Lou, and Mekong are the Gibbons. We also got some pictures of Asali and Kevin two of the Bonobos at the Fort Worth Zoo here in Texas!!! Happy Halloween Everyone!!!! Carved some pumpkins and dawned my Twisty costume from awhile back still got a good scare in before all the trick or treaters went out to the nicer neighborhoods (don't blame them most the neighbors are lame af at Halloween) it was worth hearing the shrieks of terror followed by laughter.
