Raine Hunt makes a brilliant save to keep the Cavs level at the half in the first round of the AA state playoffs. Autumn Brown and Aylin Ulloa with the goals for Callaway.
Wow. With a runner on third and two outs, Callaway's Jacob Miles fields a grounder, and Kaden Rogers makes the fantastic scoop at first. Just an awesome play by Kaden facing this kind of pressure. Headed to the seventh. Callaway and Jeff Davis are scoreless. What a game. Defense has been spectacular on both sides.
Awesome game one performance by Tucker Starling, who threw a shutout as Callaway beat Jeff Davis 4-0. Tucker finished it in style with a strikeout with two runners on in the bottom of the seventh.
Callaway with four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-0 lead over Jeff Davis in game one of their Class AA semifinal series. One of the runs scored on this Andrew Locke bunt. Justin Moore had an RBI single, and Kaden Rogers had a two-run single. Tucker Starling with five shutout innings so far. Game two will follow.
Ok check out this video from @AuburnBaseball. This is from Sunday's win over Texas A&M. Former Troup Tiger Ryan Bliss making the kind of play you'll see in big-league stadiums (you paying attention pro scouts?). Ryan is playing defense like this at shortstop, and oh yeah he's also hitting. 349 with a .418 on base percentage with 13 home runs and 36 RBIs in 45 games. What a spectacular junior season it has been for Ryan, and he's not done. Auburn hosts North Alabama Tuesday before heading to Missouri Thursday for a key three-game SEC series. Auburn is trying to play its way into the SEC tournament. The MLB draft, by the way, is July 11, and it's going to be interesting to see how high Ryan goes. Hard to see him lasting too long with his skill set. I'd love to see the home-state team draft Ryan. He'd look great in a Braves uniform.
Ethan Morton gets a bunt down, and a run scores on an error. Troup leads North Oconee 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning of game two. Troup lost game one 13-3, so it needs a win to force a game three on Tuesday. Check out @lagrangesports on Twitter for updates.
Here's how LaGrange scored its goal in the first half of the state-playoff game against East Hall. Caleb Kostial comes up with a loose ball and bangs it into the net, giving the Grangers a 1-0 lead with 28:50 left in the first half. LaGrange ended up losing 3-1, but that was a cool moment for Caleb in the final eight of the state playoffs.
Colton Webb with a sacrifice fly to give Troup a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Troup scored two more runs to take an 8-4 lead into the sixth inning. Troup trailed 4-0 early, so this would an impressive comeback against Perry in game one of their Class AAAA playoff series.
Here's how Troup took the lead in the seventh inning of Friday's 2-1 win over LaGrange. With two outs, Colton Webb singles to right field, and Hunter Kitchens hustles home with the go-ahead run. Tre Mosley led off with a walk, and Hunter entered as a pinch runner. Ethan Morton had a sacrifice bunt, setting the stage for Colton's heroics. Devon Murphy retired LaGrange in order in the bottom of the seventh to finish it. Just a really exciting game.
Big win for Troup's boys' soccer team, 2-1 over Hardaway. If Troup wins at Kendrick Monday, it will finish third in Region 2-AAAA and qualify for the state playoffs. Here's Diego Merida making the game-winning penalty kick with 1:57 to play. Diego was fouled moments earlier. Bernny Velasquez scored Troup's other goal earlier in the second half after Hardaway had taken a 1-0 lead.
Tucker Starling gets the final two outs in relief of Justin Moore. The game ends on this groundout, and Callaway beats Heard County 5-3. Big win for the Cavaliers, who are now 3-1 in Region 5-AA.They'll play a doubleheader at Heard County on Friday.
Here's the last out of Troup's 5-2 win over Columbus. Center fielder Hunter Kitchens, who made some outstanding defensive plays, makes the catch to end it. Big win for Troup, which swept the season series from Columbus and improved to 15-2 overall, and 4-0 in Region 2-AAAA.
