It is Thanksgiving Day and you drive the family to a local movie theater which has not been done in your household since 2020. You all walk into a full room of families waiting to see “Zootopia 2” and because of everyone in there, including yourself, it is now the highest grossing animated film on an opening weekend.

“Zootopia 2” begins right where the first one left off with Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde becoming celebrities and a new team over at the police department. A chase gone wrong puts the duo on the line but the sudden appearance of a snake, the first reptile seen inside Zootopia in the last 100 years, sparks a case full of vibrant animals and thick plots.

Coming from a high school where football was our biggest pride, it was easy to always look forward to Friday nights. Whether that was watching the game intently, or having a social gathering up in the stands, it was a time for the student body and community to gather together.

The phrase, “Biola has been undefeated in football since 1908,” is a common joke among students and faculty at Biola. This inside joke stems from the fact that Biola has never had a varsity football team. While many students enjoy the option of joining a low-stakes intramural football team, there has never been a legitimate football team in Biola’s history.

Bell chimes echo in the frosted air, marking the start for festivities. Candles flicker like tiny stars against the dark winter night. These festive decorations fill every corner of the Christmas celebration. And yet, for all their charm and sparkling warmth, none of them reflect the humble story of Jesus’ birth that Christmas is meant to honor.

Christmas is celebrated across the world by many people of different cultures. According to Pew Research, 96% of Christians have included this as part of their holiday celebrations. The name Christmas, meaning “Christ’s Mass,” has long been recognized as the celebration of Jesus’ birth into the world. However, traditions that are associated with Christmas originate from before his birth and were part of pagan cultures.

On Dec. 6, the Biola Conservatory of Music hosted two concerts for their annual Christmas Concert at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. The Biola Symphonic Winds, the Symphony Orchestra, the University Chorus and Chorale, along with other smaller groups and solo artists, joined together to perform two concerts, each featuring 20 pieces. These included Christmas classics and carols like “O Holy Night” and “Angels We Have Heard On High,” each reflecting the spirit of Christmas with their own combination of enchanting vocals and triumphant instruments.

According to Callis, the name “Fool’s Errand” possesses a dual meaning. The first comes from a cultural response to careers in the arts.

“Thinking about studying art and teaching art at university in American culture, often the idea of the arts can be seen as a frivolous thing…” Callis said. “So then, if you tell someone you’re an art major, and they kind of, with a slight smile on their face, say, ‘Really? What are you gonna do with that? How are you gonna make a living? It’s a fool’s errand to take up a calling to be an artist.’”

This very vocation-centric dialogue surrounding artistic majors is not uncommon, even among Biola students. Callis makes a space for this to be discussed amidst his work, as he himself stands as an example of success out of a creative major.

Rich Kids is an improv comedy club at Biola dating back 17 years. Isaac LoCascio, a junior Business and Bible major, is this season’s club president and heads a team of nine members. LoCascio is proud of the spectacular team that makes up Rich Kids’ lineup this year.

“Dexter Cornwell, an amazing man. Ginger, a hilarious woman. Harper, a young lad. Knox, Papa Knox. Mallory, Mal, dance queen, improv goat. Peter Handy, enough said. Sarah Switzer, Sarah Sniffer, Sarah… swiffer. Taylor, Tay Tay… the goat,” he said.

On Dec. 5th, President Barry Corey announced on the Think Biblically podcast that The Dwelling, a club for LGBTQ+ and same-sex attracted (SSA) students at Biola, would be permanently discontinued after the Fall 2025 semester. In his conversation with Scott Rae and Sean McDowell, Corey explained that the original intention of The Dwelling was to provide pastoral care, but that recent concerns from online content creators and journalists have led to the decision to close it. Corey said that he has tasked the President’s Council on Discipleship and Spiritual Formation to develop a new model to care for Biola’s same-sex attracted students.

Jordan Chan, similar to every CMA student at Biola, faced his senior thesis as he entered the final semester of his undergrad. However, inspiration for his final project came through a calling from God.

Three years ago, Chan was sitting at a worship night and one of the worship leaders had a word about people who dealt with fatherlessness.

“I felt the Lord say to me, ‘You’re gonna know what the film will be about,’” Chan said. “Once I heard that, the story of a father laying down his life for his son…just came into my brain and I realized this is it. Like, this is what my generation needs to hear…The Fatherless Generation.”

Today, Biola announced a 4% tuition increase from the 2026-2027 academic year for all full-time undergraduate students. The announcement came in the Dec. 9th student newsletter.

“We are committed to continue providing a high-quality education and supportive community,” the newsletter announced. “To further enhance your academic experience, undergraduate full-time tuition will increase by 4% for the 2026-2027 academic year.”

The 4% increase will add approximately $2,000 to annual tuition costs at Biola. Any changes to the cost of room and board and graduate tuition will be announced in January.

It is a well-known fact that the cost to attend Biola is steep. As of the 2025-26 academic year, the estimated cost of tuition, housing, and food is $50,904 a year, with students receiving an estimated $36,000 of that in financial aid. Assuming that students are receiving the estimated amount of financial aid—which is not always the case—students pay around $15,000 a year to attend Biola.
