Photos are the best way to value a moment you’ll never get again.⁠

I know it’s a little cheesy for us, sure, but it’s true and I’ve been thinking a lot about it now that we’re back in the groove of shooting weddings for 2024. We take anything with us when we leave earth, but I can’t think of a more important possession for the time we’re here than photos I have from my life. They’re the most tangible thing we have to look back on, for better or worse.⁠
⁠
That’s the whole reason we take our jobs so seriously. It’s why we have more than a few ways of backing up your images. It’s why we invest money back into our business. It’s why we stay up way way way too late making minor edits to get our films perfect.⁠
⁠
It’s way more than a transaction or a service, it’s actually an event that gets to mark a moment in life you’ll be able to have forever and that’s REALLY important. Just some food for thought as we get ready to create more moments for this special couple over the weekend.⁠

An autumn California golden hour engagement session series to celebrate wedding weekend for K+A!

We love when we book couples like this who give us the opportunity to be a part of their engagement photos and their wedding day. It makes prepping for the wedding even more exciting to know we’ll get to see our clients (and mostly friends) again after already having shot with them before. Usually it feels like we’re picking up right where we left off rather than having our first face to face interaction on the morning of wedding day.

I don’t particularly like social media. I specifically don’t like social media on ushy gushy days like this. I mean it’s really great that you love your significant other and by all means post a photo or video of them doing something cute (especially if we took it, and please for the love of all things good tag us, thx.) I guess I just came on here to remind you to love your partner at all times, you know? Not just on a day like valentine’s day. 🤮⁠

The bo***ir valentine’s shoot went wild. ❤️‍🔥

And by wild I mean it was off the charts special to have a handful of women come in the studio to embrace their authentic, beautiful selves and leave empowered after such a fun shoot.

I know it may seem unconventional or intimidating to book a bo***ir session, but ever since I (Shelby here) started shooting them I feel so passionate about sharing why it’s not weird or taboo to get in front of a camera for this type of occasion!!!

I’ve had the privilege of having so many women on the other side of my camera who are marking a really important part of their life through a bo***ir shoot: getting married, having a baby, or just celebrating the confidence they feel in their skin to name a few.

To me - it’s like swimming out of the water and taking a breath of fresh air from all of the beauty standards society can seem to put on us. It’s a way to connect with yourself, to celebrate yourself and to love the body you’ve been given. It’s a girl to girl experience that I always make as comfortable as possible (which usually means bringing just one boy around.. ).

No matter if the photos will be for your spouse, or just for you to hold onto, I’d almost promise you’ll leave with a new found confidence.

There are pros and cons to shooting at the same venue for multiple weddings, but we’ve actually found it to work for us and not against us in most cases.
On one hand, being familiar with the venues makes our job much easier when it comes to directing the wedding party, choosing photo locations, and capturing b-roll. It saves us from hustling to get there early to map the space and learn the ropes. When we know a venue, we don’t have to spend time testing shots as much because we know our reliable go-to angles.

On the other hand, we know all of our couples are unique and deserve for their story to be told in a new way even if it’s at the same venue. Even though we may use the same photo locations, we’re always looking for ways to mix it up based on the couple we’re working with. We choose new first look sites, new architecture for b-roll, and new perspectives to capture based on the wedding day themes.

At the end of the day, no matter where your wedding is, it’ll be special and unique to you even if weddings have happened there before.
