ODOT- Sober Ride
𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫’𝐬 𝐄𝐯𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬? 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐚 𝐒𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞
The end of the year is a busy time for many, with more drivers on the road than usual. The Oregon Department of Transportation reminds you that if you’ve been drinking, do not drive. Plan ahead to call a sober friend , ride share , or a taxi as available in your local community to get you home safely. If you are hosting, be sure that your guests have sober rides home and that you offer lots of snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.

ODOT- Move Over
𝐒𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧. 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫. 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬.
Nationally, approximately 24 first responders lose their lives on interstate highway shoulders every year while doing their job. According to AAA, an estimated 12% of interstate traffic fatalities, or 600 deaths per year, are the result of shoulder crashes. From 2016-2020 Oregon experienced 207 crashes involving vehicles parked off the road. These crashes resulted in 7 fatalities, 13 serious injuries, and 164 moderate and minor injuries. According to Oregon's Move Over Law, drivers are required to move over or slow down at least five miles below the posted speed limit when there's flashing lights of ANY color from a vehicle parked on the side of the road. Yes, this does include ANY vehicle from a tow truck, public works, emergency response, hazard lights on a car or semi, law enforcement or ODOT vehicles. October 19th is National Move Over Day and the Oregon Department of Transportation wants to remind drivers that moving over saves lives every day.
