Attention Kleberg County residents and travelers! Please be advised that today, 07/11/2024, a significant traffic switch will be implemented between Ricardo and Riviera at 10 AM.

🚗 **What's Changing:**
All northbound lane traffic will be transferred from the frontage road to the newly constructed highway.

📍 **Affected Area:**
From County Road 2140 to County Road 2280.

⛔ **Important Closures:**
Expect delays as all crossovers will be closed except for FM 628, FM 1118, Wagner, and FM 772.

Please plan your routes accordingly and drive safely. Thank you for your cooperation!

NAS Kingsville will be closed effective at noon today, Sunday, July 7. Only mission essential personnel will be allowed on base. All other inbound and outbound traffic will be secured at noon today.

Access for mission essential personnel on Monday, July 8, will be from 0630-0800 and 1530-1800 through the main gate (Gen. Cavazos Blvd.). For emergency ingress/egress outside of those times, personnel are asked to contact the NAS Kingsville watch commander.

Updates will be provided as the situation warrants.

Kleberg County Judge Rudy Madrid has ordered a Disaster Declaration for Kleberg County, in response to Hurricane Beryl.

Kleberg County is standing by ready to assist anyone in need, he said.

The Record will continue to update the community with important information as we receive it.

Everyone is highly encouraged to start preparing for a major storm.

Hurricane Beryl Update:

The City of Kingsville and Kleberg County are now preparing for potential Hurricane Beryl impact in the region beginning Sunday and continuing through Tuesday.

Officials are advising the public that the time to prepare is NOW.

County Judge Rudy Madrid has called for a voluntary evacuation for Loyola Beach, Baffin Bay and all low lying areas.

Sandbag distribution will begin Friday at the following locations:

Self Serve Sand available starting at 11 a.m. at 6th and Avenue B.

Six bags per household available at County Precincts 1, 3 and 4 starting at noon.

After a coordinated effort by Kingsville Police, Bishop Police, and the Kleberg County Sheriff's Office, two men have been arrested on felony charges following an investigation of vehicle thefts. Bishop Badgers varsity baseball advanced in the playoffs after taking game three 5-3 in extra innings versus Tuloso-Midway today to win the best-of-three series two games to one. Bishop lost game one on Thursday 7-4 but bounced back to win game two with a 5-0 shutout Friday night. The Badgers will now move onto the 4A regional semi-finals with opponent to be determined.

This week in The Kingsville Record...
A fourth Kingsville Police Officer has been added to the memorial at the Kingsville Police Department. Pinkney L. Barnhill was killed in the line of duty in July 1940. The Kingsville Record learned of Barnhill two months ago from one of his family members and began looking for more information. After partnering with KPD who continued the investigation, Barnhill was added to the memorial. His name should appear on the police memorial walls in Washington D.C. and Ausitn by 2025. We have all the details on what occurred that night in 1940. The City of Kingsville will begin demolition on several properties. Find out which ones they are. KISD has sworn in its new school board members and also had a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new track at H.M. King. We have information on when it will be available for the public to use. The Miss Kingsville Pageant is this Sunday. We have details on the time and place as well as the contestants who hope to be the next Miss Kingsville. All these stories and more in this edition. The Lady Badgers were eliminated from the softball playoffs after losing game three to Floresville, while the Bishop Badgers advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals with a game three win over Pleasanton.

The Lady Badgers varsity softball team lost to Floresville 6-2 in game two Friday night in Beeville. Game three will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11 in Beeville. The winner of game three will move on to the Regional Semifinals.
