MY MIL USED TO BABYSIT MY NEWBORN — WHEN I SAW THEIR PICTURES I CUT HER OFF, BUT MY MIL'S FAMILY GIFT SHOWED SHE WAS DOING THE RIGHT THING.
After my son, Liam, was born, my mother-in-law, Claire, started visiting us twice a week. Then she insisted on taking Liam to her house for "a few hours" each day so I could relax. At first, I appreciated the break, but something felt off.
Once, she said, "Your husband asked me to take care of the baby while you rest. He's worried about you." Suspicious, I asked my husband about it. He looked confused. "Honey, I never asked Claire to babysit!"
Another night, while nursing Liam and scrolling online, I stumbled upon a parenting blog — filled with HUNDREDS OF PHOTOS OF MY BABY! That's why Claire insisted on taking Liam every week. She had been using him for her blog, posting advice on everything from losing weight after childbirth to feeding, bathing, and putting babies to sleep.
Furious, I called her and cut off all ties. But a few weeks later, she showed up at Liam's first birthday party and tried to explain herself.
