Statement from the Soledad Police Department:

The Soledad Police Department is dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all community members. One of our core principles is that our officers will not inquire about an individual’s immigration status. This policy reflects our commitment to building trust and maintaining open communication with residents, regardless of their background.

Recently, there have been reports of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities in Soledad. It is important to clarify that ICE was conducting a targeted operation in which the Soledad Police Department did not participate.

The Soledad Police Department does not enforce federal immigration laws; immigration violations fall under the jurisdiction of federal authorities, and we do not get involved in these matters. Our officers will not stop, question, detain, arrest, or place an immigration hold on individuals simply because they may be undocumented immigrants. Our objective is to create a community atmosphere where everyone feels safe and respected, knowing they can seek help without fear of immigration-related repercussions.

In Soledad, we believe that establishing community trust is essential for effective policing. We encourage our residents to feel secure and valued, and this approach helps strengthen the relationships between law enforcement and the community we serve.
