Coushatta expanding: Continues to build on success
Posted on March 14, 2024
KINDER – Chairman Jonathan Cernek, members of the Coushatta Tribal Council, and Coushatta Casino Resort General Manager Todd Stewart will be joined by principals from TBE Architects, Yates Construction and the Wenaha Group to participate in a ground breaking ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 20. The ceremony will be held at the Seven Clans statue, located in the Sculpture Garden in front of Seven Clans Hotel.

This ground breaking will officially mark the beginning of construction on the resort’s newest series of upgrades and expansions, which begins with building a new eight-story 204-room luxury hotel with 100 suites. It will be connected to the casino, literally steps away from the casino floor. This expansion will increase capacity at Coushatta Casino Resort to over 1,000 rooms and will create additional employment opportunities for the region.

Tribal Chairman Jonathan Cernek stated, “As construction commences, we are excited about all the new venues and upgrades that we will be able to offer our guests, starting with this new hotel. Our goal is to offer our players an elevated gaming experience, and that includes top-quality lodgings and high-end dining options. The Coushatta Tribe is leading the way in building an unsurpassed resort destination, both in the local market and in the entire region,” he concluded.

During the festivities, Coushatta Tribal dancers and drummers will perform a short program, with cake-cutting to follow. The public is invited to attend.

January 2025 will mark 30 years since the small Coushatta Tribe opened a casino in the middle of a crawfish field that has grow to be the largest casino in Louisiana. Opening a casino in Allen Parish between Kinder and Oberlin was a gamble in itself. The entire parish only has around 22,000 residents. Most casinos in Louisiana are located in big cities like Lake Charles, Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

The Coushatta Tribe has continued to build on their success. Many renovations and improvements have kept the Coushatta casino a top destination spot.

Recently all of the old, outdated landscaping that included many palm trees were removed and replaced with many Magnolia trees, the state tree of Louisiana.

What was once the Circus Tent of Slots was transformed into the Entertainment Center, moving concerts into the casino. The 25,000-square-foot structure was repurposed into an impressive event center that seats more than 2,000 guests. The space now sets the stage for top entertainment and talents such as Wynonna Judd, Billy Ray Cyrus, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Martina McBride, Lee Brice and Third Eye Blind.

The newest renovation of the eight story hotel is just the start of a new round of renovation and improvements. The Coushatta Tribe has contributed hundreds of millions of dollars to the local towns and parishes over their 29 years of operation. Along with providing good paying jobs to tens of thousands of local residents.
