Permanent makeup and scarring:

I’ve had a few people ask recently if I’ve ever had any scars in my work. No my work has always healed smooth. With that being said though let’s talk about what a scar and scar tissue actually is.

Scar tissue is defined as: A growth of tissue marking the spot where skin has healed after an injury. Scar tissue occurs in every wound big or small.

Scar tissue is made up of the new cells that have formed to heal a wound. They are delicate cells that need to be protected and cared for. After your wound is healed you still need to care for that delicate skin, scar tissue, left behind. The biggest thing is keeping it out of the sun and using a high spf.

Getting permanent makeup done is like having an open wound on your face. It’s a tattoo… on your face. Just like with any tattoo and any injury or wound there will ALWAYS be a risk for scarring.

Microblading is even more traumatizing as you are using a tool to slice into the skin, there is always a higher risk for scarring associated with that technique.

Let’s talk about Keloid Scarring. If you are prone to any sort of keloid scarring I will decline service.
Keloid scarring is an overgrowth of scar tissue. It creates a mass of tissue in the skin from where the wound was. With people who are prone to keloid scarring the risk is too great, especially in the face.

Please be sure to follow your Pre-Care and Aftercare for the best healed results as instructed by the artist your work is done by. They know best about what works for their techniques and pigments. Not all aftercare is the same.

Here’s a nice pair of Powder brows after saline removal on the left side. Previous work was not done by me. We did one session of removal then used her second session to clean up around the new brow shape. I was so happy to see the lightened results after the first session. Saline removal only works in certain cases, anything done with black tattoo ink will not lighten with saline removal and at that point I will recommend laser removal. These beauties lightened up perfectly. I can’t wait to see her back at her 6 week touch up 🫶🫶 swipe to see the progress of her brows! Client today had previous work from someone else that had lost a lot of pigment on one side. Upon mapping out her brows we discovered her left brow had been placed 1/8 of an inch higher than the right, so in order to get the shape she wants we got her left brow with the saline removal. Saline removal consists of a medical grade saline solution being deposited with a tattoo machine into the area you want lightened. The saline in the solution then adheres to the pigment and when it heals it is lifted out with the scab. Depending on the desired outcome, it could take up to 4 sessions. The healing process of saline removal is different from healing permanent makeup. Once her left brow is healed we will go in and do both her brows together.

This is my girl April 🫶
She was in for her yearly touch up today! The top picture is April’s brows about 3 years ago. She had a strawberry blonde type of thing going on and wanted lighter brows at the time. A year later when she came in for her touch up she decided to go darker more towards her natural color for better maintenance (not pictured: fresh color change). The middle picture is the healed result of the color change and touch up. The bottom is the fresh touch up from today. April is a good example of not everyone’s touch up regiment is the same. April is a type 2 diabetic on an insulin pump which means longer healing times, changes in color, and a higher risk of pigment loss. She comes in anywhere from every 6 months-1 year. Longer times between touch ups risk shape distortion and greater pigment loss.
