We held the Kentstater rebrand event on Friday, January 31st from 2-5 pm in the Pepsi Leadership Center. We had an awesome time celebrating the rebrand with snacks, news related mad libs, and mood boards made with magazines. We also took lots of cute pictures with the photo wall we created out of newspapers!
Snow is falling, and finals stress is calling. Professor and doctor Laurie Wagner, who teaches Happiness and Health, advises against students immediately panicking or procrastinating but rather doing more mindful practices. Her suggestions include learning time management, doing task-orientated activities with a sense of completion, like cleaning, having a healthy screaming fit in moderation and using personalized self-care habits. In addition to Wagner’s advice, Freedom Paws held a puppy yoga event on campus this past week. Yoga professor Alicia Patrice highlights the stress-relief benefit of yoga coming through breathing practice that lowers stress levels. With all of this input, it does seem that students are embracing their inner warriors, both figuratively and yoga-wise, in their finals prep.
Our reporter Nikki Gasiewski spoke with both of these professionals and more, further exploring how students can take care of themselves during finals season.

It is unclear if this procedure applies to the office of the president or just the general assembly.

Students are now able to complete the 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, which was officially released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Education, 10 days before its Dec. 1 launch goal.
In an email sent to Kent State students Tuesday, the university said it encourages students to fill out the form as soon as they’re ready.
The Department of Education stated in a press release that it has taken feedback from students, parents and schools and “comprehensively tested the FAFSA form, system and user supports at scale through a rigorous beta testing period” to make sure there are no major issues completing the application.

A FlashAlert informed students around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday that Kent Campus Energy companies were working on natural gas lines, resulting in a gas odor inside Crawford Hall and near other campus halls.
In an email, University Housing said the odor was not a threat to campus safety and they were in contact with Dominion Energy, who was conducting planned work on the university’s gas lines.
“They have informed that there is no threat to the health and safety of those on campus and there is no need to evacuate the buildings,” University Housing stated.

In a statement, the university said the odor, which was noticeable across campus, originated from crews working on nearby gas lines. It added there was no gas leak or threat to safety.
