David Oman, of Iowa, and former N.H. Secretary of State Bill Gardner read the inscription on the monument in Keene’s Central Square on Thursday morning. Oman was reliving his trip through New Hampshire in 1975, during which he accompanied President Gerald Ford as a press relations specialist. President Ford’s first stop on his tour of New Hampshire was in Keene, where he gave a speech that drew thousands to Central Square. Oman said Ford made multiple stops across the state over the course of an 11-hour day. Oman and Gardner retraced Ford's journey through the Granite State this week to plan an event commemorating the 50-year anniversary of the of Ford's visit, slated for next year.
