The Kaufman Fire Department is mourning the loss of Terrell Police Officer Candanoza. We offer our deepest condolences to the Terrell Police Department, Officer Candanoza’s family, and all who were touched by his selfless service. His dedication to his community and the law enforcement family will never be forgotten. We stand with Terrell in honoring his memory and sacrifice. πŸ’™

On Sunday, December 8, 2024 around 11:00 pm, Officer Jacob Candanoza, Badge Number 6190, initiated a traffic stop in the 1600 block of S. State Highway 34.

Officer Candanoza requested a cover unit and units were dispatched. Within moments of this dispatch, the Terrell Police Department Communications Division received two 9-1-1 calls regarding an officer being shot. They then received a radio transmission from a citizen giving the same information. Responding officers were advised of this information, along with Terrell Fire Department and CareFlite being dispatched.

Officers arrived on scene and confirmed an officer had been shot. Medical attention was administered immediately and Officer Candanoza was transported to Baylor Scott and White in Forney. Unfortunately, Officer Candanoza did not survive the injuries sustained.

Officer Candanoza has been a police officer with the Terrell Police Department since July 2024. Our deepest condolences go out to his family as they navigate this tragic time.

The Kaufman Fire Department is deeply saddened by the loss of K9 Officer Max. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Terrell Police Department and all those who had the honor of working alongside or knowing this brave and loyal K9. Officer Max’s service and dedication to keeping the community safe will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are with the Terrell Police Department during this difficult time. πŸ’™πŸΎ

Your thoughts and prayers were felt and appreciated, however, we have received an update that leaves us with heavy hearts.

After further medical evaluation and examinations, it was determined that Max is suffering from an illness that is not survivable.

Considering the diagnosis and current condition, the very difficult decision was made to let Max go peacefully.

At this time, we ask for continued thoughts and prayers for Max, his handler Officer Anders and the entire police department.

A public memorial will be planned later this week. Details will be provided for the community to come together and celebrate Max.

Yesterday your Kaufman Firefighters were busy. Several medical emergencies, major accidents and trailer load of round bales of hay caught fire from blown tire. Personnel used 1 engine and 3 tenders for water supply due to lack of hydrants in that area. Neighbor brought his tractor over and removed bales from the trailer. Which we are extremely grateful for. Trailer did recieve some damage but pickup pulling the trailer only reciev relieved damage to top of tailgate. Be careful when transporting combustible products and watch your controlled burns it's extremely dry. Thanks to all our Personnel paid and volunteers and citizens for their efforts.
