Ever wondered why it’s hard to find a good story, something satiable, satisfying and just plain good. Sometimes, don’t you wish you could be transported to another world, just for a moment? Wish you could read something, but you can’t find what you are looking for? Or are you a writer who has worked for decades on your craft but you’d like to widen your audience? No worries. Here, our worlds collide. Readers, meet new authors. Authors, meet your readers. Submissions are open now on Submittable for Poetry, Short Stories, Creative Non Fiction, and Art. Visit our website or flyingketchuppress.submittable.com/submit and get ready for take-off.
Flying Ketchup Press ® is a trademarked small press in Kansas City, Missouri established by Polly Alice McCann to develop new and diverse voices in poetry and short story. Our dream is to salvage lost treasure troves of written and illustrated work-- to create worlds of wonder and delight; to share stories. Maybe yours.
We are... grassroots * artist-run * and we help authors and artists “catch up!”
Our Short Story Collections: We are searching for the best stories that stretch the imagination- that take place in weird wild new worlds both imaginary and true to life. Is your story full of surprises, twists, adventures, mysteries, and new things we've never thought of? Then welcome home to Flying Ketchup Press. Each year, we will publish one to two short story anthologies. You could be a part of the adventure!
One winner of our monthly story contests will receive publication online on our website! At the end of each contest period (August & January), we will select the best work overall to be published in print!
Finalists will be featured in print and ebook. Our books feature original art and a page about each author – with a link to your author page. The final author collections by theme will be available for purchase online. Book titles will be based on winning featured author's work.
How do we decide who is published in each collection? Short Stories, Poems, & Art will be evaluated on how they fit the theme as well as creativity & craftsmanship. We chose our poetry for the voice, short stories for the choice. Short Stories will be evaluated on deep characters paired with vivid settings, hard choices, smart action, and excellent dialogue. We are proud to have at least 2 to 3 judges read each entry and we offer encouraging feedback on the majority of our entries. Our short story collections are for adults. Our books do appeal to teens which authors should keep in mind. We call it 14+.
How many times can I submit? You may submit as many times as you like. The reading fee goes toward launching our small press now in its second year.
Rights: We have a onetime copyright for work submitted that is selected and published. We do not keep the copyright on your material.
