Hey Garand Collectors, check out this update!

Immediate CMP Rule Change to Allow 7.62 NATO (.308) Caliber in John C. Garand Matches

Attention competitors. The CMP Rules Committee has instituted an immediate change to the 2024 CMP Games Rifle and Pistol Competition Rulebook. Section 4.2.2.e has been updated to also allow M1 Garands chambered in 7.62 NATO (.308) cartridge to be considered an “as-issued” rifle. For shooters that wish to compete in CMP sponsored John C. Garand Matches in this alternate chambering, we look forward to seeing you on the firing line.
As a reminder, the upcoming Talladega 600 November 8-14 is a qualifying event for the GCA Master Marksman award. The GCA is proud of the 38 members who have earned this prestigious award, which began in 2023.

If you are having trouble logging into the GCA website, the GCA office staff is here to help you! Your email address is how the website identifies you. So, if you’ve changed your email address since the last time you logged in you will need to contact the office to have us change it on the website for you.

Also, because the website uses your email address to identify you, please note that two members cannot use the same email address. If you purchase a gift membership for someone, please be sure we have the member’s individual email address, we want to be sure they receive all of our email correspondence.

Hey Garand Collectors!
The Garand Collectors Association needs your help. We are working on an article regarding Gene Barrett turned and finished M1 and M1A/M14 barrels. Please send us photos of the barrel stampings in a format similar to what is shown here. His barrels were Douglas blanks turned to standard, medium and/or heavy weight profiles. Some, like for Navy Match Armorer Don McCoy, were custom profiled. Please send large format photos to [email protected]. We would like any additional information that you may have. In their original state, the barrels would have been blued, though custom orders may have been different. The goal is to gather as many variations as possible for a future article. The GCA is committed to preserving history. Thank you in advance.

The CMP just wrapped up the 2024 D-Day Matches at the Talladega Marksmanship Park, and here are some recipients of the GCA Master Marksman award. Appropriately surrounding the bust of John C. Garand from left to right are Andrew Hall, Brett Hammond, Keith Schachle and Bill Fairless.

Though Bill had earned his Master Marksman at a previous match, we wanted to include him because he earned his final points for his Distinguished Rifleman badge at the D-Day Matches Garand only Iron Man EIC Match. Of note is that he earned his first “leg” points with a Garand and his last points were earned with a Garand as well.

The GCA congratulates all of you!

The CMP is conducting an M1 Garand only Excellence in Competition (EIC) match this upcoming weekend at their world-class Talladega Marksmanship Park. This will be part of their annual D-Day Matches. Points may be earned for Distinguished Marksman. This is a rare event to break out your M1 to compete at the 200/300/600 yard lines.
