MidCoast LIVE! presents Jelly Rose

Friday, December 6th, 2024
Noon to 1:00pm CST
LIVE on KKFI 90.1 FM
www.kkfi.org

Hosted by DJ Jasmine Majors

Host Jasmine Majors welcomes Jelly Rose who will play a live concert in our 90.1FM studio during our 60 minute show.

Jelly Rose is a singer/songwriter/musician and performer from Kansas. She and her six-piece band play original songs that seamlessly infuse
sounds and textures from rock, pop, r&b, gospel, country, and jazz. Jelly Rose's earliest influences came from the church, pastored by her
grandfather. Her father and mother were the leaders of the music department. One of her four brothers played the drums, another the sound
technician and the last two would assist in whatever capacity needed. That same core group remains the backbone of Jelly Rose.
Following in the footsteps of her father, a song writer who insisted on original music and constant creativity for the church, Jelly Rose began writing songs at a young age. This drive for creativity & authenticity gave way to a sound and vibe that was at home in bars, clubs, churches and on the stages of various venues & festival grounds. Artists with influence on her music, such as Prince, SZA, Sting, Rhianna, Kings Of Leon, Teddy Swims & many more, can be sensed in some of her original songs. But very seldom to never will Rose perform a cover, as her catalog is consistently growing & evolving. On stage, Jelly Rose can flat out bring it. She traverses various genres, amping up for rock anthems then sultry slow jams, taking the audience on a journey through spirituality, love and contagious fun. Jelly Rose has been performing professionally for over 15 years, & has been honored to grace many stages & touch many people through her music & performance. So much so, she refers to her performances & music, as β€œThe Jelly Rose Experience.”

Nahhhh. We are calling out the samples. That is the fun part of listening to music and being knowledgeable about different generations and genres of music. If you didn't copy someone the legal and valid way then you deserve to get called out for stealing πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ

what say you?

Sample snitching is when fans or listeners publicly reveal the original tracks that producers have sampled in their beats. In the hip-hop world, this is a big no-no. Producers often use samples without clearing them legally, and when someone exposes these sources, it can lead to lawsuits and financial headaches. Madlib, a respected producer, once said that many of his peers avoid sampling because fans discussing their sources online have led to legal trouble.

The internet has made it easier for fans to identify samples, thanks to sites like WhoSampled and discussions on social media. While some see this as a way to appreciate the art of sampling, it can backfire. An anonymous label owner mentioned that they've had to pull records because people named the sample sources online, which caught the attention of rights holders.

The debate over sample snitching isn't new. Back in the day, DJs would go to great lengths to keep their sample sources secret, even removing labels from records to prevent others from copying their style. Today, with the rise of platforms like TikTok, some users go viral by exposing samples in popular songs, often without considering the potential consequences for the artists involved.

In 2022, rapper Chris Crack dropped an album titled "No Sample Snitching," highlighting the importance of keeping sample sources under wraps. This sentiment is echoed by many in the hip-hop community who believe that revealing samples can harm the culture and the artists who contribute to it.

In short, while uncovering sample sources might seem like a fun way to connect with music, it's crucial to recognize the potential legal and cultural ramifications. Respecting the art of sampling means appreciating the music without putting artists at risk.

Our debut dropped March 24th, 1992. Our album's chart successes ignited Southern hip hop cuz we definitely had something to say! Named after the length of time it took us to get a record contract, 3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life Of... we starkly contrasted gangsta rap that ruled... we focused on LIFE and not death. Can u dig it? How many of y'all have this classic in your collection???? ADtheBand.com via .app
