How and why we use them in the ways we choose has been a source of fascination that inspires both fetishism and harm in more severe cases. When we choose to act outside of a social norm, that scrutiny is magnified.

In which, a panel of 15 black folks (all socioeconomic backgrounds) discuss the issues that plague the black community. It’s to stop fighting and come up with solutions. Grand Rising GBP☺️ Why do we shy away from this particular topic? Why are we so gunho trying to convince that poly is centered around s*x? Let’s be real for a second MOST romantic relationships involve s*x... s*x is important and folks need to have a healthy conversation about it. Let’s chat about s*x for a moment.

Two major things contribute to our collective shame around our s*xualities: 1. We’re presented with SUCH a limited version of what s*x is (think cishet missionary- not only the position but the gender dynamic) 2. We’re isolated in our experiences and discouraged from ever talking about it to others. What happens is this: most of us have s*xual preferences that fall outside the scope of “acceptable”, sanitized, performative s*x. But we all feel WEIRD, because we’re led to believe that no one else likes these things. Example: I hear over and over from vulva-owners “I do this weird thing where I only ma******te on my front”. That’s SO COMMON! Why in the world do we have such a narrow understanding of s*xuality that rolling over to ma******te seems like an uncommon and “dirty” thing? It blows my mind, and at the same time I completely understand it. I’ve had the exact same experiences of thinking something I did was so strange and it’s only when I said it out loud that I realized this was a super common experience. Talking about s*x and building a community of people who are open about their experiences is AMAZING! It normalizes the differences in our s*xual preferences and if it’s not something we do it can give us insight into how others interact with their bodies and perhaps some inspiration. Encourage each other to have these conversations and stay open minded. Realize that the norms we’re holding on to are actually holding us back. Reinforcing oppressive norms benefits no one, stay open and challenge your assumption. You’re normal, your s*x gets to be celebrated, and you deserve to find community who supports you! 💜 I’m available for peer-support sessions if you want to chat about polyam/ENM, q***rness, s*x, love, relationships.
