I have officially published my first full-length audiobook - Chronicles of the Imagination: The Emperor's Passage!

I am so excited! The title is narrated by KDP's new Virtual Voice program, which is a great way for authors to break into the audiobook world - especially when the costs of audiobook production are prohibitive. I chose a cool British accent for my narrator, and I believe it turned out quite well. I hope you will check it out, and look for more audiobooks in my series coming soon.

If I could summarize the book in one sentence it would be, "Your sins will find you out!"

My next children's book "The Adventures of Scotty Claus" should be available very soon. The final proof is on its way to me and I want to give it the once over one more time before making it officially published. While I wait I have another one in the works "King Arthur and the Dragon of Midnight Cave." This one is based on an assignment I used to give my 7th graders after we studied Arthurian Legends. In the book I start the story and then leave space and a prompt for the readers to finish it in which King Arthur and his friends must face three challenges from the Midnight Dragon (or get eaten). Those challenges must involve a riddle, a test of strength, and a test of chivalry. I always had tons of fun reading these stories, and I hope tons of kids out there will enjoy creating their own versions of this story as well!

The first day of this mini vacation is turning out to be all wet! Rain and more rain is coming down! So no novel writing time out at my special spot, but I have done a fair amount of novel editing cozy on my couch as I watch the rain. I will probably also work on my new children’s book “The Adventures of Scotty Claus” later, so all in all not a bad way to spend a soggy day.

Is there a great writer in your child? 33 years ago my 3rd grade teacher helped me answer that question about myself, and ever since then I have LOVED being a writer! The cruel, the despicable, the hated, Emperor Seth of Staranana. One character once said of him, if one were to search the Universe from beginning to end throughout all time, you would still be hard-pressed to find a murderer such as him. His body count is in the millions and includes his own father, Iren. Seth is a devoted worshipper of Satan, but even his own minions hate him. Lizard Face has his own plans to assassinate Seth, but it is Scotty, the Blood of the Land, who finally slays him at the end of the first book Chronicles of the Imagination: Staranana. Seth's wicked legacy continues to be felt throughout the series long after his death. The character returns in the prequel novel Chronicles of the Imagination: The Emperor's Passage, where he is stripped of all dignity and power and is confronted with the greatest sins of his life. He must repent of those sins - repent or die!

And Isaiah "Scotty" Fields, the Blood of the Land - a Christian human destined to bring freedom and the message of the Gospel to the people of Staranana. He becomes best friends with the Moonbeams, and especially Sparkey as they fight to overthrow the evil Emperor Seth. Scotty is loosely based on me when I was his age. We both go by our middle names (his first name is rarely mentioned in the novels), we are both Christians, and we have both had our adventures on Staranana (though mine were make-believe). Key differences are that he is the youngest kid in his family and I am the oldest. Our first names are also different, but both are biblical. Scotty has appeared in the first four of six novels so far. Though the Blood of the Land is mentioned, Scotty will not be in novels 5, 6, and 7, since they take place before he was born. However, he will return for novel 8 where he will face perhaps his greatest challenge yet.

And now - Sparkey Moonbeam! Sparkey is the eldest son of Spikey and Gloria. So far he has gone from 7 to 10 years old in the novels. He is a risk-taker, very much like his father, and he usually follows his heart no matter how much trouble it gets him in. He is the only one of the protagonists to ever be at odds with the angel Joshua. In many ways, he is the most main of all the main characters in the series as so many things are told from his perspective. It is he who finds the Blood of the Land, the destined deliverer of Staranana. In every way, the Starananian people owe their freedom to the Moonbeam family - and especially Sparkey Moonbeam.

And this is Gloria Honeycomb Moonbeam, wife of Spikey and mother of Sparkey, Tommy, Rain, and Daniel. Gloria is the best doctor in all of Staranana. Most of her experience was gained under wartime conditions and she can do more to heal with a few herbs than most human doctors can do with the most advanced medicines available to them. Without a doubt she is one of the most important characters in the Chronicles of the Imagination series.

Introducing Spikey Moonbeam - one of the very chief protagonists in my Chronicles of the Imagination series. Spikey is a husband, father, prolific inventor, and is lauded by the angel Joshua as the bear with the most faith in all of Staranana. He is a critical part of the series and one of my most beloved characters. Almost all of the characters in Chronicles of the Imagination began as my imaginary friends when I was little. Eventually they came to life through the written word. Now decades later getting to see even a version of them with my own eyes is truly remarkable.

Continued from my previous post: The only other character to appear in all of my Chronicles of the Imagination books is the treacherous Lizard Face, the namesake of my second novel. A dragon-demon hybrid, Lizard Face was the bane of Staranana for 2,000 years. At the end of his novel he appears to meet his doom...but let's just say we haven't seen the last of him yet.

There are currently only two characters in my Chronicles of the Imagination series that appear in all six novels (and the novella). One of those is the angel Joshua. He is the guardian angel of Staranana and described as having red hair and a red beard, white robes, and a countenance like the sun. I decided to experiment with my AI art generator NightCafe to render some images of him. This is what it came up with.

I decided that this Author Weekend will begin with a writing session at the beach! Not my normal location for writing - I usually prefer the solitude of the wilderness to find my best ideas - but today I wanted to see if the majesty of the ocean would bring about any inspiration.

I’d definitely call this a successful Author Weekend! I wrote 10 pages on the new novel, earned some royalties in my Staranana campaign, gained a few reviews, and reviewed four books myself. I think I’ll need to make Author Weekends a regular thing this school year.

I need to give a plug for Kindle Unlimited to celebrate my first royalties earned through the program. This is essentially like Netflix for book lovers. You pay a monthly subscription and then have access to millions of Kindle eBooks and audio books for no further charge. And the best part is the authors still earn royalties based on the number of pages that are are read. For example one of my new readers has read 147 pages so far and I have earned 59¢. It’s not at the same level as my royalties if they just bought the book, but it is a great way for fairly new authors to find readers because people will usually take a chance on a free book. If you love to read I definitely recommend Kindle Unlimited!

Staranana Campaign Update - While I don’t have an update on sales yet (it could be a lot, it could be some, it could be none - KDP is being rather slow of late in posting sales I know have occurred), I do have two reviews pending publication. I have been working with a company called Pubby which connects authors for the purpose of reviews. I have reviewed two books myself this weekend. I am excited to see what this yields for my books.
