Growth, Changes & Vulnerability ⬇️⬇️⬇️

As with anything in life..
If you’re not personally ready for change you’ll never succeed (IMHO)..
I’ve struggled with so many addictions throughout my lifetime.
Hard drugs, alcohol, w**d.. I’ve always had an affinity for excess..
To the point that some of these habits almost literally killed me.
I say this to tell you that you can break the chains that bind you.
(If you’re ready) I’m living proof. I’ve quit everything cold turkey..
I never thought I would be 100% sober.. I didn’t even want to be that guy.. But when you’re ready you’re just ready. You’ll find strength you never knew you had.

And now I want to take back my wellness. I want to see what optimal health feels like. Which for me means eating clean.. And even though I’m working hard doing physical labor 9 month out of the year here on the homestead. I realize I need to start exercising in the off season. So that’ll be a goal I start chipping away at once I get this diet squared away.

I want to try to express to you that I’m the least judgmental human that you’ll ever encounter.. I can be around anybody doing any substance and find good in you. I’m not here to preach that you should change yourself.. If you like “you” the way you are.. I’m
genuinely happy for you. No worries. But so many of us want to make changes and just don’t know where to start.. For me, sometimes reading another humans battles and vulnerabilities is where I find strength. So maybe this will help one of you.. To know the guy who thought he’d never change.. Was more capable of change than most anyone I know..

RIP Fiona ❤️🐐

Today we lost one of the two sisters who started our Nigerian Dwarf Goat life.. Fiona was a the leader of the pack.. She and her sister Coco were our first goats. We got them in our previous life before we sold everything. We brought them home to our littler urban farm in May of 2017.

She was an absolute sweetheart and we’ll miss her forever.. Rest easy Fi.. We love you.

Shoveling s**t is just part of the deal.. 🤝🛠️💪

As the wet rainy pre-winter weather settles in for the year it creates a nasty thick bed of slop in our goats pen. It’s allot of work to shovel the s**t but our animals are spoiled and I like to keep them as comfortable as possible through the rainy season.. Goats are hilariously sensitive to rain.. They will camp out under cover all day to stay out of the rain! 😂🐐😂🐐😂🐐😂🐐😂

The silver lining in all of this hard work is that you end up with a massive pile of what will become beautiful compost for the garden.

Pump House Build 🤝🛠️💧
•
Homestead Diary: Nov. 16, 2024 The days are getting shorter and the torrential downpours are bringing that all to familiar debilitating mud back into my everyday life. Yesterday I got the house wrap on the pump house and completed the final install on the entry door. Which required some shimming to get everything opening and closing just right. I spray foam insulated around the door jam to seal it all up.
•
The conceptual idea behind this pump house staying thaw throughout the frigid winters is supported by two main attributes. 1) Airtight over insulated walls and ceiling 2) the fact that the pump house is built on top of a 2100 gallon buried concrete (cistern) full of constantly circulating 54°F spring water. I’m predicting the 54°F water underneath the floor acts as a thermal mass contributor to the internal temperature of the pump house. 💧🙌🥶

3 Years Ago.. Our first fall/winter on this land.

It’s easy to get tunnel vision.. Consumed by the thoughts of all the work that still needs to done. Never slowing down enough to reminisce and appreciate how far we’ve come..

I want to get better at this. I believe it’s good for your soul to stop and remember the journey that got you to where you’re at. All the accomplishments that you now tend to take for granted on a daily basis.. While you’re busy trying to get the next project done..
•
Life’s short.. I’ve always had a uniquely firm grasp on this.. I can easily see myself as frail old man on my death bed.. it’s what fuels my ambition and my dreams of never having regrets..
•
Big love to my Dad for helping us reshape this plot of land with his 1969 D7 dozer.. The D7 you see in this picture was a gift from the best boss he ever had. His name was Zain. And he left my Dad that dozer when he passed on.. I love you Dad. Thank you for everything.

Wilma seems to approve of the sitting rock. 🐐🥰
•
A month or so ago I was widening one of our access roads into the property and this rock was sticking up a couple inches taller than I wanted the road to be.. I figured it was maybe a bowling ball sized rock.. Boy was I wrong.. 😂 When I started to claw at it with the excavator and it didn’t budge.. I sort of dug my heals in for a fight.. 😂 I’m stubborn if nothing else. Well when I finally got it to move I had a giant hole dug in the road.. it took some real careful maneuvering to get it out of the hole and prevent it from taking off rolling down the mountain and taking out everything in its path.. Including one of my vintage Airstreams’s.. (‘63 Sovereign) which it would have tore through like a tin can.. 😂
•
Throughout the last few years we’ve made it tradition and sort of an inside joke to set up any boulder that we find that has some character as a sitting rock or a natural bird bath.. depending on their shape and attributes.. My Lady Heather has developed quite the affinity for beautiful boulders placed in beautiful places throughout our homestead property.. And now I find myself making sketchy decisions to make her smile.. 😀

My advice for you today.. is go out of your way to do the things that bring your loved ones simple joys in life.. They become investments in each other and what you’ve built together.. ❤️❤️
