Randy Turner, publisher and editor of Inside Joplin, Inside Joplin Obituaries and the Turner Report, was an award-winning reporter and editor for the Carthage Press and Lamar Democrat, working for various southwest Missouri newspapers from 1977 through 1999. Following his newspaper career, he was a middle school English teacher in the Joplin R-8 and Diamond R-4 school districts. Inside Joplin and Inside Joplin Obituaries were launched in 2013.

His name is Michael Pruden, 59, and he served his country in the U. S. Marines during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the lake and he loved his family, his friends and his dogs, Oreo and Smoky.

Her name is Gloria Trejo. On November 2, according to a probable cause statement filed today, she drove the car that struck and killed Pruden, thought she hit a deer, but when she got of her car and checked, realized it was a man.

So she left and never said anything about the accident until she was confronted by police more than two weeks later.

This is not a criticism of the Highway Patrol troopers who do their best to keep our roads safe, but the administrators and bureaucrats who made the decision to stop posting names of people who are involved in accidents.

The report notes that next of kin have been identified, but the only person who is identified in the story of today's fatal collision between a train car and a dump truck near Neosho is the doctor who pronounced the Joplin man dead at Freeman West Hospital.

I am hoping the Missouri Press Association and the newspapers and television stations in this state will battle this policy. This should be public information.
