On January 27th, the Radio Show will be returning live to the stage at The Jackson Theatre with our StoryTown Radio Show Season Kick Off & Gala. We'll be sharing fun & touching stories and memories about the theatre and have Carson Peters as our musical guest.

Did you know, the Jackson Theatre started as a silent movie theatre operated by Lola Mitchell Broyles? He called it the Blue Mouse. In the mid-1940s, it was renovated by a movie theater company and reopened as the Jackson. They not only showed movies, but they also had live music onstage, just like the Jackson is doing today.

One of our favorite parts of the Radio Show this past year, the vintage commercials, presented by our handy dandy StoryTown Stage Manager Matt. These were a fun way to thank our sponsors, and they always got a laugh from the audience. Here's a commercial reel for our good friends at McLeod Organics Jonesborough, with a special appearance by the Silver Raven at the end. Don't forget your small businesses during this holiday shopping season.

The award winning StoryTown Radio Show will begin a new season of its popular live production at The Jackson Theatre with a special Gala performance on January 27th at 7PM.

We are very excited to welcome Carson Peters for his first appearance on the Radio Show. A native of Piney Flats, TN, “Fiddlin’ Carson Peters” started fiddling at the young age of three. He performed at the Grand Ole Opry and was a contestant on NBC’s The Voice. He tours throughout the year as both a solo act and as a part of the band Carson Peters and Iron Mountain.

The special opening Gala performance is titled “I Remember the Jackson” and is filled with stories and memories about the newly renovated and reopened Jackson Theatre. The theatre was originally known as the Blue Mouse when it opened in the 1920s. By the 1940s, it was known as the Jackson Theatre and was a big part of the social fabric of Jonesborough until it closed in the early 1960s. As the Jackson neared its grand reopening, StoryTown went out into the community and collected stories about the theatre and what it meant. We’ll be sharing those stories in January inside the building that inspired them. We’ve got stories about first dates, first jobs, Teen Town, breaking curfew, celebrity sightings, and much more.

A gala will be held immediately following the performance on the theatre’s second level, featuring various desserts and small bites from local stores and restaurants. Audience members will have an opportunity to mingle and talk with the cast, writers, and directors.

Tickets for the opening performance are $10 and available online at Jonesborough.com/tickets or by calling the Historic Visitors Center at 423-753-1010. The 2025 season of StoryTown is sponsored by Tennessee Arts Commission and McLeod Organics Jonesborough.
